Does that one have screws up from the bottom below the lip?

Also, is it like the later years with a stud at each end that is tapered, pokes through a spring type nut? I am going by memory but I have taken some of these off in yards to get reverbs, radios, etc but it's been a while.

Remove all the screws under the pad up though the chrome bezel inside the car. Outside the car, remove the cowl over the wipers. You will see four or five little studs or bolts. Remove the nuts or bolts and the pad will be free to be removed. Same goes for 64.

So, what you are saying is that when i remove those nuts and bolts, the entire dash to will be loose?

I was thinking that the entire dash unbolted on a canadian pontiac, but i was not quite sure how to get at the bolts

One thing I know from reading this is I've never done it correctly then. I must have always just loosened inside and then lifted it up enough to drag the switch out for reverb, power antenna or whatever.

I'm not sure I would have ever figured that one out in a wrecking yard!

I too, am rarely ever stumped when taking a 60s GM car apart, but this one stumped me.

To make it worse, i was avoiding crawling under the dash, this car is scary, and may have various large and small animals under there!

I supose after the dash top is off, the rest of the guages and trim are easy to unbolt and very accessable?

Yes, it's nice to work on with the top lifted up, so off should be fine. As mentioned though, I think I've only done a radio, power antenna and reverb switches but I recall that being fine.

Up for a fall trip to Al's if it would work out?

i did mine last year,
undid all the screws i could find, and then i found there was
2 spots near the winsheild that required persuation, i used a long
screw driver and a hammer, and it popped off, it went back in ok
and ud never know that the 2 spots near the winsheild were missing
i did this to replace the padded portion of my 63 parisienne. i knew
the amount of wacking to get it out wasnt the actual way to do it
but my factory manual wasnt very clear and i think the windsheild was
supposeed to come out

I REMOVED THE PAD AND DASH FROM MY '64 LAURENTIAN FOR CLEANING AND RE-COLORING WITHOUT HAVING TO REMOVE THE COWL. IT ALL CAME OUT VERY EASY. confuse

You are right - you may not need to remove the cowl vent, possibly just the chrome at the base of the windshield.

cowl vent should be removed , and there are least 2 bolts with spud nuts 3/8's? I think, that poke through the firewall upper portion. Like others have said, you may be able to muscle it out, but I've removed 3 of these ,,and that's that! I wouldn't take the chance of wrecking a fully padded dash removing it.

You are correct!
there are 2 studs on the dash that stick thu to the cowl area.

I got lucky on one car, as the nuts were already off.
so i just removed the screws under the dashpad, and the whole dash top lifted off.

On a second car, no luck, so sure enough, there were to speednuts under the cowl outside the car.
