This is a stunning car; one of only 1732 GT editions ever produced. It is an un-restored 2 door hardtop with only 15,500 actual miles. The GT classification includes a special hood, steel-belted radial white lettered tires on Rally II wheels (original tires have been kept, and trim rings added), custom sport mirrors, body stripes, and special hood. It has the original two-tone special order paint, with all chrome trim in excellent condition. The interior is original and in like-new condition, with white vinyl seats and door panels (not dry or cracked), original carpet, floor mats and dash. This car has tilt power steering, a 3-speed automatic on-the-floor transmission shifter, and power brakes. It runs like new. The 350 - 4 barrel engine is original, with all wiring in neat and like-new condition. Trunk interior, original spare and jack are in excellent, unused condition. Underside of the vehicle is clean and rust-free, with original exhaust.
cupedition, were the opera windows an option on these, I thought they were part of the package, the same way that the louvered windows are standard on Grand Ams of the same era.
Sport Coupes began life in 1973 as rear quarter louvers only. Part way through 1973 GM found that many buyers wanted a sport coupe but acceptance of the louvers was an issue for them. This prompted GM to release the sport coupe in the Colonade Hardtop style in mid year. See last Paragraph of this letter.
Starting in 1974 either the louvers or opera window became standard Sport Coupe treatment so buyers could have whatever one they wanted. Perhaps not well advertised or preferrence the louvers continued to be the body of choice for Sport Coupe buyers. This remained in effect until 1977 when the body style was discontiunued.
Begining in 1976 the Colonade hardtop (long quarter window) was discontinued in favour of the opera window on entry level LeMans and was standard on Grand LeMans as well.
With respect to Grand Am, these came in two body styles, sport coupe and 4 dr. sedan. The Colonade Hardtop style was not offered on Grand Am Sport Coupes in 1973. In 1974 and 1975 Sport Coupe Grand Ams could be had with opera window as detailed above but again a very rare car that we seldom see.
Wow! That's really interesting info, Ray. It's nice to learn more about these cars as there's not much out there yet.
Myself, I've always preferred the long rear side glass on these cars. It's interesting that Pontiac discontinued it in '76 but it was still available on Chevelle, Cutlass and Century...
I have always liked the look of the long window 76/77 Buicks and Olds.
Remember the Laguna, it got louvers as well...,,January 1, 1974, a Sports Roof option, which included louvered rear-quarter coach windows and a front-half vinyl roof cover, became available for the S-3 continuing thereafter.
It has opera windows and no vinyl roof. Plus dog dish hubcaps. Tell us more about this particular car or is there a thread about it already. Is is Canadian?
I just saw it on the on line Pontiac Magazine. Al I know is that Enforcers came in 2dr or 4dr styles with 400 V8 and turbo 400 rated at 185 net HP back then, basically one of the most powerful engines out there in 76/77. I one heard that Detroit City police used 2dr unmarked LeMans cars for certain plain clothes units.
FYI this Canadian Cup GT in the kijij ad did come to Eastern Ontario from Alberta a couple of years ago. It is an original car with some evidence of previous body work on the passenger left rear quarter, and a minor ding on the passenger front up by the headlight.
