I sold my '66 Canso last year, now I've decided to let the '65 Canso go too.... Yeah Carl, I know........
This car just turned over 75,000 original miles, it was overhauled back in '85-86 and the motor and tranny were rebuilt then too. I don't know if it's the original powerglide but the 194 ci motor is original and the rebuild has 12,000 or so miles on it. I have bills for most everything done to the car back in the '80's and GM Canada documentation. The car was restored by the owners son (he's my age, about 50). He had the car painted in Calgary where he lived at the time back in '86 and because it was in such good shape he didn't have the door jambs or underhood/trunk bodycolor etc painted (they are still great). He made a few mistakes though, he painted the firewall and underside of the hood black as well as putting undercoating inside the trunk.....
He had the car Z-barted (rustproofed) and had the floor undercoated at this time (it was the mid-80's....) The bumpers are re-chromed and painted inside, they still look mint. He made one big mistake, he added an FM radio and screwed up the bezel. I have a stock radio and bezel but the car deserves a better one (In BC, the car would need this radio to qualify for a "Collector" plate status). He mounted the front speaker with a couple screws through the top dash grille from the top...., it's fixable. He also added the chrome trim that frames the dash, it's from a '64 chevyII and I think it's a great addition. I bought the car back in 2007 from his dad Karl. Karl said he bought the car in Calgary back in '65 and moved it to Washington State in '67 (I have the paperwork), I brought the car back to Canada and got it running again. The car had been parked for about 6 years, it needed a steering box. They had a rebuilt one but never installed it. I had to install the steering box, the steering column, grille, rad etc.. I had the rad recored, the fuel pump replaced, the carb replaced, the gastank drained and coated inside. I added new rear shocks, 5 new tires, rebuilt the brakes with shoes, new springs and wheel cylinders, tuned it up (added new wires etc as well as pertronix ignition), and put the '65-'66 Canso SD spinner hubcaps off my '66 on the car (I still have the originals in the picture with Karl). The windshield had a chip so I had that replaced, the windshield sill was in like new condition, zero rust! This car was always garage kept and had a cover on it when I first viewed it. It was well taken care of! There are a few paint chips on the exterior, I'll send close ups to anyone interested in the car. I'm selling it because I've owned it for 3 years and put just over 500 miles on it. The insurance ran out in the fall of '08, I put a permit on it and drove it a few weeks ago (it passed the BC aircare). I did start it and motor around the cul-du-sac on occasion while it was uninsured. I can take more pictures if requested. I'm near Vancouver.
Bought the car off Karl, this is when I picked it up:
I showed it that fall, it placed 3rd in conservative hardtop class (not bad for 22 year old paint):
Engine bay is excellent:
Trim, bumper, grille are excellent:
Seats, headliner, and door panels are original. The metal dash and metal on inside of doors was painted in the mid-80's. The door panels are like new and unique to Acadian Canso. That's original paint in the door jamb:
The underside of the trunk lid has original paint, it's a shame the inside was undercoated but I believe it would come up with some hard work. The rear side floor doesn't have the rusty line us chevyII/Acadian fans are used to seeing. Very nice to see original panels like this! :
The car is very straight, I was told Karl's wife had a minor accident where there was some damage to the driver's front corner. It looks like it must have been fixed right!
Sorry for the pic heavy post (loading time, not the images!). Email me at: cansosd@shaw.ca I'll give my home phone if requested by pm.
I'm asking $13,700. Dan

Oh man. I've been away a week but Dan told me this was coming....
What an amazing car! I love the colour combo, so unique.
Good luck with the sale Dan. On second thought, maybe not!!!!! It would be nice to see you keep it!
I corresponded quite a bit with Dan when he was debating the purchase of this car. From all the details and pics I've seen of it, I have to say it's likely a unique opportunity available here.

Car is sold and motoring back to Calgary. It was originally sold at Stampede Motors in Calgary so after all these years it's come around full circle. I'm pleased with the new owners, nice people and the kind we all would like to pass our classic rides down to. Gave them some Acadian collectables too! Carl, thanks again for all the insight when I first purchased this car. Hopefully you will get to view it in person one of these days. I'm off to Seattle for a week taking a course so I may not post for a while if there isn't a computer readily available. Mike,.... you looked great in the car as you drove away. Enjoy it! Dan

It was a pleasure meeting you Dan. Tamara and I had a great weekend and wonderful trip home. Thank you for the kind words and all the extras with the car. This was one of my best car buying experiences ever. Dan is very thorough and up front with everything. As well, he took the time to drive us to get a permit for the car to drive home. Wished there would have been more time to talk cars but we had to hit the road and Dan had prior plans. In another thread, I'll post photos and a little story of our journey home. Thanks again Dan! Tamara already claimed it as hers! (I think it suits her!)
