Weve had almost no winter this year snow wise, used the blower twice. -12 now, forecast for 10-15 Cm Monday night, 10-15 Cm Tuesday, then 30-40 mm Tuesday with temp +7, Wednesday +6, Friday +7. Friday is February 5th. We have only a little winter left with any luck.
In 2003 about March 15, in front of my house we had 24 inches of salt water ice and it was like glass for skating. I put a picnic table on the ice and we skated and drank beer one Sunday afternoon. Been here 24 years, it was the only year we ever had good salt water ice. We had record daily lows about 15 times in February and March.

It's been a crazy winter so far here as well Don. The old timers are saying they've never seen such a mild winter with so little snow. I don't even think there's any frost in the ground. The system coming will be interesting. Nothing worse than heavy rain on top of a bunch of snow. The heavy winds will be a concern especially if we get a prolonged bout of freezing rain first.

The old timers have bad memories. My first Winter on the Island (2006) was better.

Not looking forward to the 100 km/h winds. At least they will be easterly so they will blow the trees away from the house/driveway, should any of them fall. Funny, I dreamt last night that I bought a chainsaw...
Ahhh... winter in NS...

I just got home from delivering across the island. A little dicey especially the highway from Summerside to Charlottetown. There's 7" (17.8cm) on the ground at my place so far and it's still coming down pretty good. Winds are picking up too.

Snow started at 7:00 AM and switched over to hard driving rain around 10:30~ish. Had a good 8 inches on the ground in that short amount of time. Had to get it cleared as quick as possible because it way HEAVY to move. At least the new garages were made water tight by the end of the day yesterday.

I shoveled the driveway just before the rain. It was just howling out, but the wind was directly at my back.
Each shovelful sailed at least 15 feet down the driveway. By the time I got to the driveway mouth there was 3 feet of snow across the road. The plow will get it. Pretty easy shoveling for a change!

The winds are getting stronger. We've had a couple of "three second" power outages which means there's a branch somewhere hitting the wires. If I go silent you'll know the branch came down...

The rain has died down here, it seems the wind has a bit also. Usually the north shore has a lot of wind compared to you.

It had to happen sooner or later. We've been enjoying a beautiful winter, but ...............
Looks like I'll be spending lots of time in the garage next week, and very little time outside except for my daily walks.
Every winter I'm so very grateful for the Gulfstream. We've just got light flurries and only just above or below freezing for about a week, then back to the mid forties. (I've gone back to Fahrenheit now we've left the European "experiment")
Of course it is worse the further North you go in the country, but thankfully I very rarely have to go in that direction. In our neck of the woods we actually get less precipitation than Paris.
Had my first jab last week, any of you guys had one yet?

It's been a strange week for weather. Last week we got about 20 cm of snow followed by rising temperatures and about 50 or 60 mm of rain with temps hitting +10°C, bringing us back to bare ground.
Tonight there's this:
Total snowfall: 30 to 50 cm.
Maximum wind gusts: 60 to 80 km/h except near 90 km/h along parts of the Atlantic coast.
Locations: all of Nova Scotia.
Time span: beginning late this afternoon for western Nova Scotia. Beginning this evening elsewhere. Snow ending from west to east Monday morning.
Remarks: Snow at times heavy will begin over southwestern Nova Scotia late this afternoon and spread northeastward to the remainder of the province this evening. Strong northeasterly winds will develop this evening and persist into Monday morning giving near-zero visibilities at times in blowing and drifting snow. Snow will gradually end from west to east across the province beginning early Monday morning but strong northerly winds will continue to give blowing snow over the eastern half of the province until Monday afternoon.
It's been interesting to say the least...

Can't get jabbed if there is no vaccine
Last schedule for someone 73 years of age in Alberta was end of May-July....
but that was before the lack of vaccines.....August/September or later now?
Who knows?

Like Mark (MC) says we are in for a bit of a wallop tonight- 40-50cm of snow for my area of PEI and 80k+ winds. It's supposed to start within the hour. Got lots of food, gas for the generator and wood for the stove (and the day off tomorrow) so we're as ready as we'll ever be.

Yeah has been nice but things will cool down here too mid week. Took the old Beaumont for a little spin yesterday to enjoy my exchanged carb but saying we might hit -20 in a few days. Nice with the days getting longer now too.

Wow, I just looked, you guys have a cold snap coming. Until now we've had an amazing winter but it's great that it's finally cold. I'm getting sick of having to constantly wash the car and truck, the streets have been messy for weeks but now they are dry finally.

Horizontal snow, freezing rain, and high winds in Halifax all night. Lots of drifting snow down already. Wind is rumbling outside and shaking the house, but at least I still have power (knocking on wood...).
