Sucks when it goes off again- it did at 6pm, still off. NS Power must be having lots of fun with whatever is happening. The grid is kind of like a car that has no regular maintenance, no oil changes, no rustproofing, no filters, etc. It gets fixed when a tow truck needs to be called. Latest suggestion for back online is 11pm. Ive not had this on again off again power, this is strange. Usually a storm knocks it off, it gets fixed, power comes on and stay on. Weve had no weather issues since yesterday that would make the power get broken again.
Where I live in the city, we used to lose power just about every time the wind picked up. Usually wouldn't be for long, a few hours at the most (except Hurricane Juan, where it was 2 or 3 days), but it reliably went off at least once or twice a month.
Around 15 years ago (can't remember the exact year), after a November storm that took out a bunch of towers, NS Power had spent a bunch on infrastructure upgrades after all the bad press they had received from not maintaining/upgrading the 1950s era towers that had buckled under the weight of snow/ice. Not sure if that was the cause, but coincident with that, our power has not been off for more than an hour or two at a time, and this probably doesn't happen any more than once or twice per year. Maybe we've just been lucky, I'm not sure.
Hope it comes on and stays on next time!! It's been a cold weekend.

Just in time for this: "Rainfall warning in effect for:
Lunenburg County
Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.
Total rainfall: 25 to 40 mm."
and this:
"Wind warning in effect for:
Lunenburg County
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.
Maximum gusts: southeasterly 80 to 100 km/h."
Then there is this:
"Special weather statement in effect for:
Lunenburg County
Large waves, pounding surf and elevated sea water levels are expected, possibly exceeding high astronomical tide.
Locations: exposed shorelines of Lunenberg and Halifax Counties.
High tide: near 8 P.M. tonight
Remarks: Storm surge and minor coastal flooding are possible near high tide tonight."
Wow. I think that's more than we've had all winter so far.

My 30 year old Craftsman walk behind blower didnt like this snow. It seems really packed, its like the entire driveway was a snow bank. I had to push the blower because even in low gear it was too fast and would slip the belts. The belts are an odd length and when I replaced them last year I had to order them. I do have a spare set but just took my time.

After the 4th time without power since last Friday night, I got up today with power only to see a tree in my driveway lay on my power line. Called ns power, they would have someone here around 2pm. Shortly after calling, the power went off again. Off for about 4 hours, came back on and shortly after that, a crew showed up and removed tree f the lawn. They didnt even shut the power off to cut it up.
The wind last night took out a whole bunch of trees, so a whole new problem on the grid, not just a continuation of the original outage. It was +8 yesterday, 5 today, now dropping to -12.

My daughter lives in Vancouver and I watch the weather there, it has been an extreme year to say the least, snow, rain, and wind. They now have a fog advisory, dont think I have ever seen that before. Living by the ocean I see lots of fog but I dont recall ever seeing a fog advisory.

Woo hoo! More rushing out there before temperatures plummet, to push the wet slop off the cars and driveway before it freezes into a solid block of ice. Doesn't get any better than that!
Fresh air and exercise! ;)

We had the usual 30ish CM of snow, 100k wind gusts and a 3 hour power outage. It went from -2C and snow to plus 1 and rain/freezing rain then down to -6c turning everything to concrete. Luckily I had a mind to do the snow removal as soon as the rain started.
