Thanks fitz,thats probably the problem.I will take the bearings off and see if that helps.I guess i should clean and re-pack everything as a precaution anyways.Does anybody know what type 9 brake fluid is?Thats what the originalanual says to use but i can't say i've ever heard of type 9.

Like Fitz's says your reqular dot3 fluid is just fine.

Ok kinda like xmas today as the gasket kit for the motor and tranny showed up.I have gone through the distributor while i was waiting,just have to set the points now and put it back in.I havr the motor at tdc #1 is there a particular way this goes back in.i have to have a closer look at the cap to see if #1 is marked.If not hopefullty the manual will clear things up.Anyways a few pics,especially of thoses elusive factory pen marks.
That's looking real nice, what are you using to paint the parts?

Well things were going just too well.I started putting the tranny back together today and all seemed well.Then i tried adjusting the low reverse band and i couldn't seem to get it to adjust.So took the screw right out and kinda heard something drop.No i did it i thought as i hadn't planned on taking out the low reverse sun gear assembly.Mostly because the manual mentions a special puller to take it apart.So off came the bolt holding the u-joint yoke,off came the 4 bolts and a couple good raps with a hammer and a brass punch and out it popped no problem.Took out the low reverse band and i think it looks good enough to re-use.Then i found the problem.The adjusting link(thats what its called in the manual is broken on one arm and about 80 % cracked on the other,doh!!!.I have a feeling this is what sidelined this car in the first place.Now what are the chances of finding another one or can a guy just mig weld this one back together?I included some pics so feel free to comment on the condition of the bands or what a guy can do with this link.Kinda a t a standstill on the tranny until i find a solution.
you will not find easily a new piece, and to me it is a easy fix.
In my PG it was the shift lever shaft I had to fix, and I trust the repair. If it were me, I would fix yours too, and it will work great after.

Ok 3 hours of welding,blending and smoothing and the reverse lever is back in one piece,hopefully to last another 50 years.so next was to start putting evrything back together.after an hour of staring and trying evry configuration i finally figured out how the reverse band,lever,screw,and servo all fit together.Boy you would think the manual would have a picture of it but no such luck.Since mine just kinda came out in 6 parts i didn't really have a before pic to reference.doh!Anyways finally figured it out got the band and all the pieces in,along with the rear gear assembly,yoke,etc.I am having a bit of trouble still adjusting the screw.I know it says to turn the screw down until you have no endplay/backlash in the servo spring and then back it off 1/8 to 1/4 turn.By the time i do this i only have about 2 threads left sticking up,just enough to hold the locknut.I seem to remember way more screw sticking up when i took it apart but maybe i'm just imagining.

A little more progress,most of the tranny is back together.Just a few covers to install and she should be good to bolt back up to the motor.My stupid camera keeps screwing up so only a couple pics.
Hooray trans is back together.i had to paint the convertor as well because evrybody knows of you paint something red on your car it adds at least 10 horsepower,he,he.Kind of a busy weekend so not sure if i'll get it hooked back up to the motor or not.I've got most of the motor parts painted but still need to change a couple gaskets and then it can be put back in the car.Enjoy the pics.
I paint my torque converter blue, do you think I'm losting horsepower??

Hey All Well its been a bit but i've slowly been tinkering away on the car.Yesterday i assembled the rear u-joint and mocked up the rear tube cover.I ended up making a couple shims out of some tin as i read in the manual that it should move around by hand fairly easily.Then today i slid the motor and trans back into place.Now i just have to figure out where all the lines and such go.
Well some more progress but work has been crazy busy so not much spare time.I'm mostly waiting on the postman as i ordered in a bunch of little parts to get the motor finished up.I do seem to have a few mystery parts,does anybody know what the pics are of?At first i thought they were for the seats but that doesn't seem to make sense as there are no power seats.Next i thought they may go on the inner fenders somehow and the headlight wiring would go onto them.Actually i could use a few good pics of how the inner fenders go together and the vent tubes as well.i figure i may as well get all the front sheetmetal back on while i wait for the rest of the engine stuff.Also does anybody have a good pic of how the 2 felt seals fit on the trans cover.I should get the torque tube bolted up as well and get the tranny filled back up.Finally i know the signal light lenses are pretty hard to fid,any good sources out there?Mine are cracked but they will do until i can find replacements.

Hey All Well its been a bit so a little update.The pieces are coming back together and getting fewer in number so thats a good thing.I got the inner fenders mostly figured out.Spent last night under the car bolting down the tranny mounts and lines.Does anybody know how the 2 felt/cork seals fit on the ball cover.i think the small one goes into the cap that threads on the end of the cover but i cannot find where the large 4 inch one goes.Of course it;s not in the manual.I know chevs of the 40;s sells new ones.There is a concave rubber seal in the one bolt on cover.I would really like to getit bolted up and some fluid into the tranny.Also in my pics there is one little mystery line that comes up fron the p.s side firewall.Still waiting on the motor mounts and new battery tray.Getting close to actually seeing if it turnsover.I still have to figure out the starter wiring and of course the headlights/signal lights.Oh yeah and how the heater hoses run.Mine are tied together by the firewall,hopefully that doesn't mean the core is rotten and was bypassed.
Your heater hose: on your firewall the higher one go to the pipe on the engine head. The other one at the bottom of the radiator.
Can you post picture of the other parts that cause you problem?

In the 4th pic you can see the little mystery line,not quite sure where it goes to.On the front of the motor there is the black cooler?I need a pic of how the hoses hook up on that and the waterpump.I assume it has something to do with the u shaped tube i have left over.Also last night when i was underneath i was checking the e-brake cables,first i will need new ones as mine are seized up,but they hook up by the trans as there are a couple of slides on either side of the tranny.I think i may be missing a few parts there as i am not sure how it all hooks together.Thanks for the help with the heater hoses that is one more mystery solved.

if I see the thing you want me to see it is your oil pressure gauge pipe. At the other end you expect to find another fitting like this one. The other end screew into a fitting union that go to another pipe to your oil gauge. The pipe connect just beside your gas pump, into a small female 90degrees fitting.
The picture below show you how to route the U shape pipe with the transmission cooler and the water pump.
