My Aternator was failing all the way home but I made it.
I'm having dinner now.
I think I will eat my hat

Lost power at 7pm. Connie finished cooking dinner on the woodstove. We haven't seen the worst of the winds yet- only gusting to 77kmh (120kmh on the bridge). Unfortunately we have so many trees hanging by a thread from Fiona that I figured we'd lose power early. We have enought flashlights etc that I won't bother firing up the generator until morning if the power is still out. Luckily it's not cold. It's 5 here and going up to 10 overnight.

Power came back on about 15 minutes ago but it's been going on and off since likely from a branch touching the lines somewhere.

We're getting blasted here too. Lost power for an hour. Wicked. Dogs go out, turn around and run back in. We joked today "lets go down to the lake tonight for a walk".
We have a big standing pilot type gas fireplace, so it can keep the place from freezing which is good.
But when you lose power in this chill, with this wind, it wouldn't take long to freeze any older poorly insulated home without a backup. So in that, it got me thinking about some ways to keep a Nat Gas furnace running in a power failure without a backup generator.
This guy has certainly has some good food for thought in the above regard,

Like most trucks and SUV,s today, my Explorer has a 110 outlet in the console. I could just run a cord out to it I suppose need be.
But I always have about 6 full size car batteries being maintained, so I could just cycle them in and out as needed. Put them in the car to charge running a charger off the 110. The combinations are many.
Regardless, I think I'm going to buy an 1000 watt inverter just to have.

I keep a little inverter here, 400 watts and have a small solar panel as well. I figured too, just start pulling batteries out of cars if need be just so we can run a couple of lights. Also have a 3500 watt generator to run a small heater as well as a propane heater. None of this is new to me since we had our off grid cabin for 13 years. Had the same propane heater there, same inverter there, just a different generator now that I have to pull the rope on instead of turn a key from inside the cabin!
Manitoba has likely the most reliable power in the country though, power outages here due to weather are very very rare. The odd time some sort of accident happens where a pole comes down and we are out of power but I doubt we've averaged an outage every 3 years in the last decades.

I was just out the back door and the snow is deep enough that only the handle of my shovel is above the snow! And it is still coming down, lots of wind. Highway 6 from Owen Sound to Tobermory closed.

Finally warming up. Shoveled at home, shovel at work..was getting tired! My son and I took the work truck around today but most customers were closed. Was freezing rain last night. We only passed 1 commercial truck when heading back to the shop and that was a 45 min drive! Nothing like driving TDG on snow and ice.......

Finally nice to see other parts of the country finally getting some Old Man Winter. Granted, power outages doesn't have to be in the mix but if we could only share some of this cold, it would be a relief! It's been a month of this consistent nonsense. LOL

Heavy Rain warnings now, so in a day it went from -10 to +10 for a high today and rain.
Gonna be a slushy mess today, no plow yet either so our road is a mess.

A green Christmas for us here in PEI. 4c and sunny today.
Gazebo's look ok, but whatever is in those lean 2's not so much. Must be heavy drifts?
We are gonna have a Wet White Christmas out on the west coast. Hopefully over stay's on.
Got got home from a very long day.
The flash freeze is the worst part.
Too cold for salt.
Still could have been worse.
