We got lucky as well. The power flickered a couple of times but we didn't lose it. Environment Canada weather summaries below. Brier Island had a maximum wind gust of 132 km/h (!)... hopefully Ashmore and others from the area made out okay.

Man, what a large system. The winds have turned to the NNW and are shaking the house at the moment. Tomorrow the temp is supposed to drop to -1 with -12 wind chill from 80 km/h gusts.
Eastern NS is going to get it worse, though, with another 50 to 70 mm of rain tonight switching to ice pellets and freezing rain tomorrow, wind gusting to 90, then 10 to 15 cm of snow tomorrow night.
And winter is just starting... groan.

MC, Ive always said, if a tree falls in the forest and my wife isnt there to see it, am I still wrong?
We woke up today to the ground and everything covered in ice from freezing rain and it never got above 1C, but my wife saw a black and orange caterpillar crawling across the gravel as she was going out in the car around 2:00pm. I cant imagine where that came from. Low -8 tonight, windchill-15.
Due to bad weather a cruise ship scheduled to visit the Bahamas today got rerouted to Saint John today, windchill there was -12, 2900 people got a surprise.

Had a discussion with my sister, her granddaughter was in Niagara Falls, my sister was there with her daughter March break 1984. While they were there in 84, pei had a major blizzard and schools were closed for 9 days in western pei. I think I remember this, I was living in Halifax, pei s snowplows and normal snow equipment wouldnt do the job, had to use large bulldozers to clear many of the roads.
Our current storm was slated to start at 9:00am, it just started at 7pm, may get 10-20 cms.
