Hello All! Found this article by accident. Try to find "gmnext.com". There is an article by a Bill Bowman about the history of the Canadian GM vehicles. I think you will find the Pontiac information of interest. The article is called "Canada Only - General Motors Cars".
Very nice to read that history. I don't want to start anything up again but the article is on GM's official web site and I can only assume it has been fact checked and edited appropriately. I notice Acadian and Beuamont are referred to as Pontiacs.

In 1968, Pontiacs in Canada were built with their own version of the "Wide Track", using the one-inch wider wheel track of the Chevy station wagon. The Grand Parisienne was introduced, a regular Parisienne dressed up with trim items of its U.S. Grand Prix and Bonneville cousins.
So 67's had the "regular" track. 68's the wider wagon track? I had no idea that there was a track difference with any B body Chevrolets, 65-70. Could someone explain?

I believe they accomplished this by using wider rims on the Chevy wagons and the Pontiacs.

Ahh...Now that makes sense! Was it moving to a 7 from a 6.5" wheel?

who is Bill Bowman?, like is he a GM exec., GM anything, or JUST a reporter who hasnt done his homework and is just umbrellaing the Acadian or Beaumont under Pontiac because it was sold at the Pontiac dealer. We all know the Acadian and Beaumont were a line up all their own.
yea, OK, hes an enthusiast, arent we all enthusiasts, doesnt make us experts, Alll GM advertising articles on the Beaumont all reference them as their own line-up, I know who Jim Wagners is, when he was signing my car, he had no clue to a Beaumont, ....however he did sign the car "its still a Pontiac...lets keep it alive
On a different note here and I know this is not part of this thread, Vern, this picture looks awefully familiar!! Are you one of these online hackers that was on here a few days ago, swiping other peoples avatars and personal pics????? It is a nice pic, isn't it...Took about an hour to walk to and from that car for it!!!! I can send a full size shot of it like this one to you if you wish!!!!!

I too thought about removing the emblem, but didn't have the heart....It belongs attached right where it is......................Copy on it's way......

"with downsized american Pontiac body panels?", what Pontiac body panels, body panels are Chevelle. Under the Beaumont write up, that one shows Chevelle body panels, the other writeup had showed "with downsized American Pontiac body panels"

I often "wondered" who "designed Canadian models", since someone said Jim Wangers, did not know what a Beaumont was.. But this article says, they were designed in "Detroit" Guess the left hand, didn't know what the right hand, was doing lol

Jim didnt know what a Beaumont was, at least he was sure leading on like he didnt know, I told him take the Chevelle, put a GTO interior in it, both GM A bodies, put a split Pontiac grill in it, and you have a Beaumont, he put his hand on his chin, looked to the sky and replied "I like it", he signed the visor "its still a Pontiac... lets keep it alive, Jim"
