Hello everyone. I trust everyone is getting ready for a new summer and wishing you all the best and many safe miles. The latch on my hood broke today and I have the hood open about a inch but cant get it to open completely as the catch still has it hooked. I tried reaching up behind to the latch but could not get anything to move so the hood would release open. Ths hood is on a 1970 Tempest

It sounds like it's hooked on the secondary latch if you got it open an inch. If looking at the front of your car the latch is holding the right side of the hood. You need to lower the hood a bit and go inbetween the bumper and hood with a small rod or similar. To push up from the bottom of the right side to the top of the right side causing the latch to go left. Or if the pull rod has come off at the latch. Push down on the hood alittle and get the longest pair of needle nose pliers and pull foward were the rod was hooked. On both of these do the hood and moving of the latch at the same time. Hope this helps.

Thanks Kim,
Like you said I made the longest needlenose plyers I could from a coat hanger and slipped it in around the rear of the latch and presto opened right up. Now just need to get a new latch as once I got it out it appears someone also had a problem at one time and had it screwed together. I wont be putting that one back.
Thanks again.
