Here are some pictures of a 53 2 door I don't know what to do with either. I gave to my stepson but here has never shown any interest in it. Are there a lot of these around?

I lichen that body style. I don't think there are too many like this around, mostly I see 4dr. 53's and 54's. Tinted windows too, a US car? Love the chain engine mounts.

No its a Canadian car. The tinted windows must have been an option. That flathead must have put out some wicked torque!
Pretty tired car but I haven't seen many 2 door sedans of that vintage and it is fairly complete.
Do know know what series it is? I.E. deluxe or el standardo?

I'm not expert in this era but with those tinited windows and all that chrome trim I don't think it is the standard model.

Clock, radio, tinted glass and a heater must have been about it for options back then. (although I would guess a automatic (powerglide?) must have been available but probably not really trusted yet.

The Pathfinder Model 2000 were more common.

If its an US chassis car it would be a hydromatic it think. Powerglides came in the Pathfinder.

Howdy, I took a picture of the cowl tag but its so blurry I can't make out the model number. I do know that it says General Motors of Canada on it.
I always thought the way to tell the 53 or 54 American Pontiacs was that they all had that little lift on the fins and had round tail lights, not Chevy style.

This car is a canadian model, It's the Laurentian. You can recognize it by (mostly) the teardrop molding under the side rear window.
I need those molding if you want to sell it. And some frame bracket if not too rusted.
On those, the powerglide was the automatic choice, the interior was more luxurious than the Pathfinder, but the tranny is the same.

Actually I'd like to sell the whole thing but I'd better break the news to my stepson first. I'll probably post it in the cars for sale section when i work this out. I know that's kind of logistically difficult for the eastern guys but I just don't want a gutted body laying around. (I have enough of those including the ones I buried, he chuckled evilly) At some point I'd have to haul what's left to the dump and I actually think that if somebody had a good front clip this thing would make a good project as it is pretty complete.
Just envision it with a new front underpinniing, , liitle lowered, front discs, fuel injected chevy with a OD automatic. Could cruise Canada in style! From experience I will say there is no more secure feeling than riding in the back of one of those two door sedans. Those things were built solid!

Hi, I don't think it'll actually run.(although I have never tried either even though I've had it for about 15 years-other priorities) As for the filter I never really took a good look. I'll post a couple of pictures but I have to spend a couple of days in Edmonton first I live in Lac La Biche AB, (about 3 hours north of Edmonton.)
Is yours a 2 door?

My car has exactly what you suggested doing with this one so I have included a couple of photo's in case you decide to keep it. I tried to match the location of yours.
These are great cars and if you were here in Ont. we would be talking about a deal. You cant have too many of them.. Great car

I used to have a 53 chev with a 350 and 4 speed so I can relate. I have to admit I'm still confused about Canadian models in 1953. Mine has simpler side trim that yours but the teardrop window trim. I don't know if that makes it higher in the trim level or lower.

I was calling my Pontiac a Chieftain until I met a gentleman here in Ottawa who has a totally unrestored original Pathfinder.
Our cars are identical in trim and interior and his car is a basic Pathfinder not the deluxe.
Your car and mine appear to be pretty much the same.
Mine was a standard and an inline 6 flat head.
