Since the west coast of the country is getting a true summer and we aren't, it only makes sense to feature a BC ragtop this month. Paul Budding owns this awesome 65 Beaumont SD convertible. So, if it's raining where you are, grab a cold one and enjoy this great SD and picture yourself driving it on a warm summer's day with the mountains in the background...
Here's more about the car from Paul:
"I was sitting at a intersection when this car drove by me. My exact works were, " HOLY CR*P", there goes the only 65 SD rag that I have ever seen. After speeding and driving crazy I managed to catch him and flag him over. That's when I met farmer. He's a good old Merritt boy that loves his Beaumonts. I asked about the car and he explained that his buddies and him built this car from the ground up and it cost him a 65 HT Beaumont, a truck, and a camper to put it together (trade for the work). Of course I asked him if he would sell it and he said no, but he would sell me a 65 SD rag project. At that point I was wondering who has more than one of these. Yikes, I have more than one now. Farmer told me he was offered some money last year and I promply told him I would match it.Still no! I took his number and we parted ways. As I drove beside the car I thought, there goes the only chance I would have at one of these. So I rolled down the window, bumped the price in traffic, and offered him a bus ride home. Still no, but I made him laugh. The next day I had a hang up call with no message. I had a hunch so I *69 it and called the number. Farmer answers so I asked how he was doing and if the car was for sale. He said Hmm, come and look at it. I brought a registered cheque, drove Farmers car a block, and handed over the cash. He said that's it, I said is there anything wrong with it? He said no, it wasn't for sale. That's how good old boys make a deal. He was right, 6yrs and one wheel cylinder went and thats it. Since I have had it I recovered the seats, new door panels, and carpet. I enjoy doing the interiors myself. It's been a real good car and it's given me the time to build another 65 SD beaumont rag that is painted and will be on the road next summer. Farmers car is a Regal red on black, powerglide car, and I still have the original 283. It has a vortec 350 motor in it right now and is a great driver. Not bad for a 44 year old car that is around the 300 in total production. If you have one of these you also love these rare cars. Hard to find parts but worth the trouble. Thanks for looking. LOL Paul"

Great story and it shows that perserverance can pay off. If you are interested in someone's car, it never hurts to let them know - you just never know what could happen...

Thanks for all the replies. This car runs and drives really nice. I can relate to Farmer when it comes to the time it takes to put one of these together. The blue 65 Beaumont SD 4 spd car that I built for next year has been alot of fun. If you can find one of these, build it because there fun, easy to take apart and rebuild, and are a very low production CANADIAN car that deserves to be saved.

Paul congrats on having the feature car. Great story and super looking car. I always like the rare ones! Sure is nice to have a convertible be in the spotlight, at least i can think of summer looking at it even if the weather isn't cooperating here.

We had about 4 days of 34 to 38 degrees weather here so it definitely was rag weather. Almost to hot for me but better than rain. We really have had good weather for a long time.

Tough to beat a red rag. Correction, tough to beat a red rag as a Canadian Poncho feature car.
Great story of persistence as mentioned. Way to go!

I'm a lucky guy to have such a nice rare Beaumont. I still cra*p my pants when I see any Beaumont or Acadian. I really enjoy all the comments from the great members of CP.
