Installed the set of GTO/Grand Am/LeMans GT one year only exhaust extensions that New York member BillyGoat73 brought up for me. Also had a new exhaust system built by Joe at JB Racing. I really did use Cherry Bombs Turbo mufflers. Car sounds sweet, flows great and is quieter at cruising speeds. All in all it put a real big on my face.
We used this 1973 promotional literature as an installation guide, plus memory, as my first boss had a '73 Grand Am with these pipes.

It's dark now so this is the best I can do. I just started the car and let it run on fast idle.

It looks great to see a set of those pipes on a '73! It has been a while since I've seen them.

Thanks - Cherry Bomb selction at local Canadian Tire is extensive, they carry the original glass packs, Vortex and Turbo design so that's where I purchased them. $104 alll in for two Turbos. Right off the shelf.

Hearing that makes me wonder how anyone could buy a 4 cylinder car...
Nothing sounds as nice as a V8 with nice mufflers

I sensed car was running too rich so I pulled the AC Delco R44T plugs and boy were they fouled up. I decided to go with a cross referenced plug NGK V power. Next I took about 3/4 turn out of each idle mixture screw, set curb idle to 400 in drive as per underhood tune up specs. Car is running super nice, 65camino and I took a ride out to Scarborough to test it out. Throttle response has never been this good. Car accelerates well without kicking it down so going up to 2 1/4" pipes from 2" and free flow mufflers can really be felt in the seat of the pants.
One more thing, I have to give Racer Rick credit for the Cherry Bombs, we heard a '57 Laurentian he had put them on last season. Hillar was there and he was so taken with the sound I decided to make the change. So The Cherry Bomb mod is in honour of Hillar. He would have loved the extensions too.

I prefer the sound of the Cherry Bomb turbo mufflers over all of the performance mufflers I've heard. I had Magnaflows on my 2005 Dodge Magnum Hemi; I did not like their sound.
By the way Ray, the car sounds great with them.

I went the "cherry Bomb" turbo's in the spring as well, not to copy you folks but I has "split" the seams on old muffler. I was going to go with the long red "TUBES" but they are just too loud!!! These ones are just right, quiet while driving in town, but but your foot in it & they just make "MUSIC" [ as well as 2 AFB's wide open to boot ]
