Yo Fred, I have sent you info but have not until today taken photos of the two plates on the cowl, here they are (sorry for my crummy job of only partially scrubbing off the black [and before that, brown] overpaint of some prior owner with lacquer thinner):
And I suppose I am a dummy, but why on the SN plate do they have a space for Model, Trim, Paint, & Body Serial and then leave them blank???
Thanks, DAve

55 had all the info on one large plate. 56 first year with 2 plates, 1 large, 1 smaller. 57 had 2 of the smaller plates for vin and tag. so i'm figuring using up the old vin plate during 56

I noticed the same thing on that green 58 that was at our swap meet on Sunday. I posted a pic of the cowl tag only I think but the serial tag was as you say.

Sorry I must have missed that earlier discussion.
The one with the body and paint codes is in original body color (green - looks more bluish in my photo for some unknown reason) while the big one with the serial number must have been silver-metal color originally, comnsistent with your "other idea" - also the big one was sloppily attached (one corner is bent where it was forced to fit the curve of the cowl) consistent with assembly line work.
Thanks for the info guys!
