Looking for a starter for my '55 Pont. Mine started acting up. I've pulled it all apart and cleaned it and its still acting up. Curious to see if anyone has a good used or new starter for my car. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can get a rebuilt on at most UAP or NAPA stores. Just ask for a '61 Chev inline 6 one.

Same as 1955-57 Chevrolet 6. Do NOT ask for Pontiac!
Should be easily available, rebuilt or new. Maybe $100.
Note that it bolts to bellhousing, not engine block as on later models.

thanks guys for the responses. I have already been to my local parts store and we searched all their books for 55-57 chev starters and they didnt show anything, so when I get into the bigger city near home in a week im going to check at the NAPA and see what they come up with.
Eeluddy, the 261 in 1961 is the same as the one for 55?? if thats the case I will check for that as well!!
Greatly appreciate all your all guys!!!
cheers!

I took mine to a local guy (farm equipment type place) who rebuilt mine. Maybe that is an option to search for. Basically the only origianal part left is the housing.
