I have a presto lite battery in my car. It's the long narrow 6v., but I took it out, charged the cells and it's putting out 8.2 v, now. It is labelled a Prestolite P2E-530, written in felt pen on the label and I am pretty adept at web searching, but can find absolutely nothing on this battery. Any help regarding age, manufacturer, replacement units, (I know about the delco 2ed from vintage auto batteries), but would like to know if mine is a six or eight volt and if there was some kind of divine intervention that made it take and hold a charge at this late date. Curious like crazy!!!!!

Can you post a pic of the battery? does it have 4 caps on the top? if so you most likely have an 8volt battery. I actually just ran into a guy thats been using an 8 volt battery in his 6volt 53chevy, he says it works great, i forget what else he said he changed to do that but he has left the radio disconnected for safety purposes but still runs all 6volt lights in it.

Thanks, fellas. Spoke to the last owner who drove the car. He advised that he put a tractor battery in it (1983), new Shell tires, then trucked it back from Ontario to Alberta. It has 1,000 more miles on it now than are written on the Ottawa area oil change tag still attached to the driver's door. I guess Prestolite was making tractor batteries in 1983 or thereabouts. Will post some pics from my iPad, for general interest.

Ohhh, pretty crummy, I'd say. Door panels and all upholstery are shot. Two rust holes in floor, (1 1/2" and 2 1/2"), right under gas pedal where driver's heel would go. Dash is pristine, though. Took more pictures yesterday and will post them today if I get a chance. Over the past two days I have read Auto Upholstery and Interiors by Bruce Caldwell, cover to cover.

Welllll, today I took off the interior firewall plate, hit it with the wire wheel, then 80 grit and 100 to get the previous marks out, wiped with acetone and applied Rustoleum black gloss ( 3 coats so far). Coats # 5&6 on the fan and rad mount and called it a day. Took off the oblong cover plate on the driver's side of the transmission hump, gave it a quick hit with 100 grit on my DA sander, then two coats of rustoleum gloss black. Called it a day. More pictures on my iPad but the cloud is not cooperating. We'll keep trying. Whew, it's hot here. Calling it a day.
