Seems like it doesn't take long for these rebuilt caliper we buy for cheap at the parts store to seize from sitting ... What is the best way to unseize the piston ?

Some guys use a compressor and a blow gun but put something in there so the piston can't come all the way out and become a missile!

Wouldn't this rip the rubber around it ?

Try putting a block of wood or something so it can just move a bit, not enough to damage something.

I had two of them seized tonight ( I got the other one from my parts car) I pressed the brake pedal, they eventually came out but wouldn't go back in the caliper housing even with my press.

They're pretty cheap to buy, I'd just replace them to be safe.

Pascal you might consider converting to silicone based brake fluid as well, it doesn't attracy moisture like the regular stuff. (Doesn't take paint off either if spilled.)

Would you have to drain the complete hydraulic brake system first then flush the lines a bit then use the silicon fluid or is it compatible with the old fluid?

What do you use to flush the system, or does it have to be flushed to clean it out?

Gotta love old cars, alot cheaper on parts than new ones ! (GM refurbished caliper by Fenco) 19$ on sale at Crappy Tire ! I installed it late this afternoon ... My car is just a driver, not a show car so I put the usual DOT 3 brake fluid. Also, No need to rebuild my old one, I exchanged it as a core. I was leaking more than the brake fluid, lol, 30 degree weather here, she's a hot one ...
