well after seeing that a new tank is listed at 350 US for my 53 poncho and the rad shop could not guarantee if boiling the tank would clean out the pickup tube inside the tank i figured i had nuthin to lose so after flushing the tank several times i filled it with water and soap and cut the hole

the inside was very rusty it had fuel in it when i drained it about half a tank but it was 20 plus years old.hit it hard with the hose then it was time to clean. poured in half a gallon of vinager filled with water and let sit for 2 daysafter 2 days emptied the tank and blasted it out with the hose the chunks were comin out bare clean metal was appearing so repeated process twice more used a gallon of vinegar total and after hosing the tank several times ALL the rust inside was gone, clean metal thruout.removed the pickup tube JB welded a new one in place

Have done a similar cleaning process but useing molasses. Cleans the inside and outside at the same time. Imerse the tank in a 9 to 1 mix of molasses and water and leave for two to three weeks. The mix smells pretty bad and looks like a witches brew. It wont work if there is paint or grease on the part.

Corona amigo (or according to Rick, Lucky).
Why did you have to JB weld the tube, and not metal weld it? Did you epoxy coat the inside? Just curious.

Always nice when you can do a job yourself and save money. One of my favorite things :)
Now...if I can only figure out how to turn my Q-Jet into a Holley spreadbore DP, I'll be really excited. Probably need to buy more vinegar.
