back again..........this winter I plan on doing the 6 volt to 12 volt switch. So far I have the alternator, coil with built in resister, capacitor for points, resistors for gauges and new fan motor. I made the brackets to adapt the alt to the motor and have the correct pulley. I was told the starter will work and I need to change the solenoid to a 12volt one, does anyone know which starter solenoid I need to do the change.
I've been running the 6volt solenoid on my converted 51 and it's working well ....
Unless you think you're going to start the engine for a long period of time, the 6V solenoid will do just fine

Going on about 7 years with the same 6 volt starter and solenoid - no problems yet, but I also don't let it crank a long time. I'd run it till it dies and then have it rebuilt to 12v
Cheers

hey guys...........thanks again for your help, I think I will just wing it with the 6v starter and sol for now and see what happens, she's a good starting car so I can't see me overloading it. I have a spare started I can tinker with to see what will work in the event of a seizure or burn out.
