I understand that the steering box on a 51 Canadian Pontiac is 100 Chev: ours is loose and I prefer to get a rebuilt unit instead of a kit since it is that same amount of labour, or less. Can someone suggest a good source for steering box - hopefully in Canada.

Try:
Custom Steering Gear Rebuilders
187 Steelcase Rd W,
Markham, ON
L3R 2R9
905-475-5533
Had the steering gear upgraded on my Impala, took the box and pump to him. Now I have to 3 turns lock to lock, also rebuilt the power steering pump.
Very satisfied.
Owner has much experience and built steering boxes for the stock cars that run the local circuits. Willing to give you what ever ratio you need.

they are actually fairly easy to rebuild as long as you can find the correct bearings and the worm gear is in good shape.I worked at a shop for 10 years doing nothing but steering boxes and the old manual gears are very basic.
