Well this is incredible, I think anyway. The 50 Pontiac that I am working on has not seen any activity since 1974, the year it was last Licensed and then parked. I took the wiper motor from under the Dash , cleaned the exterior with part wash, then lubricated the internal with a brake cleaner first, then sprayed a little penetrating oil in the orifices +/- sides, let I sit over night. This morning I hooked my shop Vac up with reducers to the wiper motor and to my surprise , the Motor Worked ? Wow.
My concern is , how reliable is it? Is this the time to bite the bullet and change it out? I am leaning in that direction? Comments welcomed

Greetings to you. A big part of the decision is personal preference. I had a '49 Cadillac model 62 - it also had vacuum wipers which were rather anemic, stopping when you were into the accelerator, climbing a hill, etc.
I had mine rebuilt by Ficken Wiper Service I believe it was. As well, mine was assisted by a vacuum pump integral to the fuel pump. I rebuilt both portions of the pump.
The combination (rebuilt wiper motor and fuel/vacuum pump) made a night and day difference and I could drive anywhere in the rainy BC weather.
I went this route as I'm kind of stuck on keeping things original.
Again, a preference. Best of luck however you go.

For what it's worth I'm not sure how much rain you plan to be driving in but I use Rain X on my windshield and never use the wipers when on the highway. From my experience with vacuum wipers many years ago they were fine when driving slow and not having to apply much power. I do have electric wipers if I need it in town but have had great success with the Rain X.

Robert, I am trying my best to keep our car discrete and look original, unless you know what your are looking at or for, it will look original hummmm.
I guess, I am going to limit the amount of rainy day driving but the weather is sometimes un predictable. At this time I am going to plan a 12 volt 110 degree motor c/o, and keep the on/off switch in the same place, If I can. Thanks for the comments.

Just try the Rain X too as your wipers will have less resistance and you may find you won't even need them. I just am happy not to see them flapping back and forth when I do get caught in showers.

I used that conversion from Chevy's of the 40's on my 52 Pontiac [before garage burn't] had to bend the factory brkt. down a bit but worked fine, knob & harness were good for mtg. it back in factory hole BUT you can't run the org. radio [not enough clearance, but worked with aftermarket radio I got to fit the hole, correct radio conv. for car!!!!

Apologies - straying somewhat but my reply to gent about his wipers and my experience with my Cadillac has me missing it. 4 year old in the picture is a grown up young lady now..
The wiper motor in our 1950 Pontiac is pneumatic drive. My manul has little to nothing about this motor or drive system.
I was wondering if anyone has ever converted to a 12 Volt motor, and if so what did you use for a substitute?
Comments or ideas are appreciated
