No pickup Carl, but how do you plan on ensuring a used pickup tube stays in the pump? I've heard, once pulled they never seem to have the same press in tension as new.
I've recently just discovered a simple clamp that you can use to make sure it at least stays in. Clamps around the tube, attaches to the pump with the cover bolts. Seem a reasonable alternative to welding, and is only 20 bucks.
Picked one up for the 327. Pretty clever and cheap solution to a possible disaster.

I know guys have made something like that. I didn't realize someone sells it. I'll see if they make them for big blocks.
I always weld them in, just to be safe. Too many stories of lost engines due to something as simple as the pickup falling off...

Carl I've got a Melling in the box, I get out to the garage this weekend and see if I can unearth it. I bought it for the 454 not realizing a new one had been installed on my engine prior to me getting it. I found this out when I had to change the B body stock pan to the A body stock pan. And yes mine it tack welded in .

I'm finding this a bit confusing. You're looking for the pickup, or just the screen in the pickup?

It's the pickup I need. Some listings call it a screen when in reality you get the whole thing.
The screen is not replaceable on it's own.
And I've found there's two styles to fit the same year, and there's two different designs depending on the year of pan you use.

I went through the invoices from when I had the LS6 454 in my Parisienne rebuilt. Originally, they listed "MEL305S Oil Pump Screen", but had a comment "need to confirm 8" deep pan."
On the final invoice, they listed "CNCTW7008 Oil Pump Pick-up Screen", and proceeded to bill me "R & R Customer supplied pick up screen (This was not correct for the oil pan) and provide an alternate pick up screen. The mounting tab needed to be shortened & re-welded because the screen was not level and a high volume pump was used. There is an added height difference between stock and a high volume pump."
I got credit for the original screen they provided (which for some reason they thought I provided), but they didn't deduct anything for them fooling around on trying to determine which screen to use.

So if you're using a high volume pump, you may need something specific. (When I had the 454 in my convertible rebuilt, they used an high volume pump but don't remember anything odd being required)

I am using a stock pump. It worked out for me to get the screen today and although I can't try it until tomorrow it looks good.

Are all the big block pans the same depth for that gen? And is there a difference in depth for the regular vs high volume pump? Was a HV even offered?
