So my Parisienne has a new Edelbrock 4bbl on it in place of the factory Carter.The top of the Edelbrock is larger than the Carter.I'm looking for a stock assembly to fit this Edelbrock??

Is there such a thing for 63 ? You need 5 1/4" now. Carter is 5 1/8"?
Find a 66 and later QJ 5 1/4" SBC assembly and cut the bottom out of it, McGiver (weld) it into your 63 factory base.
Or go for broke and just do an open element...

Stock carb on a 63 283 likely was a 2 barrel, your GM Historic docs will confirm that it was a 195hp 283, which is a 2 barrel. Stock 4 barrel on chevies was a Rochester 4 gc on a 250 hp and a carter afb on a 300 hp. To look stock, youd need a 63 top, other years may be the same, and a right size opening to fit your edelbrock, whatever size it is. Likely you can buy a reproduction base from show cars to fit the edelbrock, or use a stock 4 barrel base and an adapter.
Id suggest you drive your car a while to be sure you are happy with that carb in frequent use including city type driving. The 4 barrel can be too much carb for a 283, but it may be fine. It drove fine on the highway on the drive home but that is different than driving at slower speeds a lot.
My experience has been mostly Chevy so the Cdn Pontiac May have had other 283 options that I havent come across yet.

Don, I believe you're correct here. VVS docs say 283 2bbl 195 hp. PO says it came/he bought it with the Carter on it. I ran the #'s and it comes up 65 327/300hp. The intake # says 63-65 AFB ...it's a casty. The block#'s match VVS and glove box original warrantee docs and the heads seem correct for 283 Power Pack. One thing I notice is that both carb and manifold show as service upgrade options. PO says the car was special order and undelivered and put on the lot for sale where he bought it. I'm thinking I need a "period correct" intake and 2 bbl to make things right here. I agree with your "too much carb" diagnosis. A factory 2bbl air breather assly will be required as well. This car will stay stock. All other aspects are correct for a "survivor designation". The 4bbl Carter( 3721sb, date code C5 ) appears to be mint rebuild. I will probably list it with it's manifold when a suitable replacement comes my way! Looking at the bolt heads holding the intake down suggests a more modern grade 5 application as well.Interestingly the original warrantee docs list the buyer in 63 as Calona Wines in Kelowna! The history associated with that is a great read for anyone interested! Having said all that I'll need a 63 2bbl carb and manifold and factory air breather complete assly minus the decals which are on the way as we speak!

What does your abbreviation "PO" mean? To me it's Purchase Order, but that'd be what the buyer sends the seller, and would then receive a Bill of Sale.

Otus, I'm going to buck the trend here and say I think that 3721 Carter would be a great setup on the 283. Assuming the Carter is in nice shape as you are thinking it is.
I've know guys who ran Carters on nice little stock small blocks way back when. Next to a Quadrajet I would pick it as the best 4 barrel ever.

Carl, what's up with 3721s vs 3721sb...seems some were auto jetted and others standard..tranny that is..now you've got me wondering. I don't know why Ted, my PO ,went with a new Edelbrock...I see pinched off exhaust riser tubes...hmm maybe was too hard to fix up those I'll ask him as I said I'd call with any q's.

Imho a carter is superior to the edelbrock which is a copy of the carter afb. Sometimes when people cant get a car to run good, they buy a new carb. Is the Eddie electric choke and the afb manual? Sometimes choke settings can be hard to get right.
I have a carter afb on my 409, I wired the choke open and never have an issue with colder weather btw.
A 2 barrel intake should be easy to find since everyone wants a 4 barrel, same for the 2 barrel air cleaner base. I threw an intake out from a 62, no one wanted it. Those old 2 barrel 283s were the most common V8 on full size and are the reason everyone loved them, they worked good and were good on fuel for their day.

Unfortunately neither fit my QJ. The lid though is the same as was found on the 283. They say the 66 327 had the same assembly as the 396, although I dont think Ive seen conclusive proof. End result is that Im using a flat bottom assembly, an exposed air cleaner, and a 283 lid... which I think looks good considering the 327 decals are in the vcs. Ill try to post a pic tomorrow

I am fairly sure the snorkel on the 396 is different than the snorkel on the 327. The 327 is more tapered and the 396 is a rounder snorkel. And as always I could be wrong!

That would be my guess. On the B body the base is the same but has 3 different snorkel designs. I am betting Beaumont is the same only of course no 427 air cleaner so only 2 styles. The lid appears to be the same for all 66 Quadrajet air cleaners.

speaking of snorkels...looks to me like full size in 63 small block had/has a completely round one. I've only seen a few of these...any thoughts here? Were there snorkel differences between 2bbl/4bbl? I see now that if I run my 1406 I'll have to resort to aftermarket....I like the black edelbrock version ...

When Chevrolet offered the 220-horse for 1965/66 in the U.S. it used the exact same carburetor & intake manifold as the 250-horse 327, right down to the carb part #. At that point it was a Rochester 7025127 (manual) or 7025128 (automatic). It was a smaller carb than the 300-horse 327 used.
As for the Quadrajet, it is a very flexible carb that can work on many different engine displacements.
