I guess I just found my newest little restoration project,
From my 65 Pontiac. Base is stamped GUIDE 3, SAE L64. Lens is GUIDE 5 SAE L 65, 5956698 1.
I'd say mine is like your silver one with the ears modified. I'm also assuming your lens of a different part number is different than mine, in that it has no silver paint inside 1/2 the lens. I'm assuming mine is original to the car.
Well it looks like I need the ebay repro lamp since it looks like what I have now if mine hadn't been repair modified.
The trunk harness connector hasn't been cut and replaced either which is further evidence.
My car is a Dec. 64 build so it predates your SAE L 65 lens, but other than that my lamp appears the same.

Is there one from a 65 SS hidden in this kijiji ad?
My US Pontiac parts book only goes up to 66 but it shows 65-66 US models use the same lens. All 65 US models use it except wagons, that includes Lemans, all 66 US all models including Lemans use it.

65 sedan/coupe, Chev vs Pontiac, they do not cross anywhere it seems. But as suggested, maybe Oshawa got something unique.

Thanks for all the replies. I've looked at the numbers in the Dec. 64 Canadian Chevrolet catalogue wiki pages 7829 and 7830 here: www.gmpartswiki.com/getpage They say 5956396 for the lens number which differs from my 5955195 lens number, but the lamp housing number is only found on it's original box though. My 5955195 lens is for 66-69 all as per the catalogue page posted by cdnpont. I don't understand how the 66-69 lens could be SAE 64 coded if it supercedes the SAE 65 coded 5956396 lens specified in the Dec. 64 Canadian Chevrolet catalogue?

Do I have the type of license lamp I do because my car is a Canadian Chevy, or is it a PO install along with the trunk harness it plugs in to?
Wondering what you guys have on your Canadian Pontiacs?
The US Chevy lamp with the incompatible connector is the yellow zinc one and the Tremclad silver painted one is what I found on my car.
Mine looks like this ebay lamp except mine has been cut and weld repaired at the mounts.
1966-1972 GM Rear Bumper License Lamp Assembly. Light Tag. Free Shipping | eBay
Note the error in the listing because the lens is coded for 1964.

Yes there are two pics of it.
Identical other than a black connector instead of my white one, but it's the same type of connector.
Too bad it's so rusty, the yellow zinc lamp I pictured started as an excellent original with no rust pits before replating.
Since it's for US built cars I'll have to sell it, but it needs a gasket and lens though.
good question i will look today be nice to know your car looks very nice have we seen pictures? great color!
Somebody here must have a good usable complete assembly for you Ryan.
C'mon guys, who has a 65-67 Full size Chev or CP lamp assembly sitting collecting dust never to be used? Lets help out here.
It is entirely possible that the lamp assembly on the Canadian Pontiac might be USA Pontiac as well.
In that, Chevrolet might be different altogether, which was Ryan's original question.
