Would anyone here happen to have the master cylinder and push rod that you've removed from a 65 or 66 Canadian Pontiac or Chevrolet B-body? I have the original master cylinder for my car which came in a box when I bought the car. It needed rebuilt and I've done that now. I went to put it back on today but it appears that the aftermarket master cylinder that was on the car uses a different push rod. As you can see in the picture the plunger has a completely different depth to it. The original is on the left side and the replacement is on the right side. The ball on the end of the pushrod is not a nice fit in the plunger on the original master cylinder. I'm thinking the rod part of the push rod is changed. Likely the clevis is original but the rod is a replacement.
I'm looking in the parts book and I see this rod also is the same on 62 to 67 Nova with manual brakes, 64 to 66 Chevelle with manual brakes, 67 to 69 Camaro or Nova with manual brakes. I do have a push rod laying around here in my parts pile but I have no idea what it's from and I'd like to be sure that I have the right one.

I ran into this problem on a 67 beaumont one time. I have lots of 64 chevelle rods you can have one if you want.

Excellent, 64 with manual brakes should be the same. When you get a chance can you either email me a picture or post it in this thread.
67 is a different setup, as you know.

Also, I'm wondering if there's some sort of washer in behind the snap ring that keeps the pushrod from going all 2" into the plunger? i.e. the washer would push on the end of the plunger rather than the pushrod pushing inside the bore of the plunger?

Nope, it goes right down to the bottom of the bore, so the pushrod is longer for that type of cylinder, thats whre i ran into the problem with my 67. I can try to get pics tonight

I have two that appear to be like your original:
The bores measure about 1-5/8" in depth x ~.15/32 diameter.
I don't have any pushrods other than the one that's in my car currently, but it looks much different - it has kind of a bullet nose on it, it is adjustable, and has a straight knurl on part of it. I'm not sure I have any pictures.

Yes, I forgot to mention it's for manual brakes. Power is a totally different setup than manual.

how long is the rod you have there Carl? I have 3 of them-pretty sure 1 of them will work-forgot the other day and of course with this weather I am not down south for a bit again-let me know

I think Dave is going to be able to help me out John but when offered free delivery I was ready to take it!
It should be around 7" from tip to centre of the pin on the clevis judging by the picture Dave sent me.
I'll keep you posted. I may be in the city at the end of next week and if for some reason it doesn't work out with Dave I'll let you know.
Weather? What weather???!!! So far this is a dud, it's nowhere near what they predicted. Looks like the freezing rain is starting here now though, so that could get interesting. We might be running the generator yet...
