I have seen cars in the past that had the serial number plate changed. Not necessarily because the car was stolen, but to avoid paying transfer and license fees. Times were tough in the sixties for some families. The plate should be held on by a type of hollow rivet, not screwed on. I have included a picture showing the type of rivets. Sometimes the rivets may have a sealer dabbed on to fill in the hole in the centre.

Hello,
Looking for help to identify this vehicle. My understanding is it is a 52 however the serial number says otherswise.
Model 22-69
Serial 422691XXXX
Engine W28094
Trim 300 Paint 451
I am convinced it is a 52 Fleetleader special - 4dr sedan It has the same front styling etc..
however the serial is 42269.... meaning its a 54?
Welcome.....a 54 looks quite a bit different front and rear
looks like a 52...last year for 2 pc windshield,im pretty sure most grilles are 1 yr only in
Thank you - I am so confused by the 4 at the beginning of the serial number, but it makes sense it is a 52 with that styling.
Looks identical to a 52 Fleetlander Special - but that 4 thows me way off - I thought the first number in the serial number is the year
Thanks for your help.
