Years ago I installed power locks from a later model (70's - 80's) GM on the black 66 Grande Parisienne that Tom from Edmonton now has. I plan to do that again on the 66 I have now, so recently it was testing time just to make sure it all works. When I bought this car from Ken he included the matching switches for the 66 (71 and up GM used a different style switch) and all I need to do is make up an harness. I put some stuff together just to test it all and it works fine, so just have to make up a nice harness. I have all the correct connectors etc to make it a correct installation other than it being electric vs the 66 setup which was vacuum.
This is one option I never really see guys adding. Has anyone done a factory style power lock setup on their 60's Pontiac?
I think I mentioned in another thread that installing later model (as in 1980's style) power locks in our older cars is not a real bad job, kind of fun actually.
I don't know if I ever posted this but if you think you might do it sometime, make sure you grab a power lock relay from a mid 80's GM, either mid size or full size car. It is wired up like the diagram below and makes it very simple to wire in the power locks. This relay could actually be used for other items as well where you have an electric motor that reverses direction by reversing the polarity on the two wires to the motor.
The relay is usually mounted behind the passenger side kick panel and it will have wire colours like those shown in the diagram below.
I never knew about those relays. Without those you need to use two standard relays to reverse the polarity. I'll have to watch for some.
Do you know if they are available new aftermarket ?

Yes, in the past that's what I did was use a pair of 5 pin relays but I like this a lot better. As far as I've found there's no new aftermarket but the right wrecking yard is full of them and the nice thing is they are tucked away out of the weather. I'm planning to grab 2-3 next time I find them in a yard. If I do get some I'll grab some for you also.

The OEM part number is 20306055.
One caveat on these. The mounting screw on the metal mounting bracket is the relay ground as well, so if you aren't mounting it on metal you'll have to run a ground wire.
I have not been able to find any other source for them and GM discontinued them about 10 years ago.
