I've always been a model train fan but never really thought much of the larger 3 rail O-gauge trains like Lionel. It seems they've really improved things over the years. "Digitral" control, sound and smoke effects etc.
You need deep pocket to get into Lionel trains these days. Some of the new sets are over 3 grand USD! You also need a lot of room for a layout. I enjoy this guys channel. He has a large layout and here's a video he did
without any commentary.

Still have 027 gauge Lionel and Marx from the early 50's. Set these up in 1992 for my 8 yr old
and then several years ago again for the grand kids. Small and simple but they love it.
Wow to the above! I always liked the N-scale as you could pack a set into a smaller area. They were scaled to our Hot Wheels & Matchbox cars, sort of.
On another note, I took a high-speed train in France from Limoge to Paris back in 2011. There's just something about seeing the distant horizon approaching rapidly at 300 km/h, and looking beside you to the highway where traffic going 120 km/h looks like it is going backwards really fast. Tracks have to run true for that.

A railroad enthusiast has created an HO scale layout of a former industrial area in my home town. Its interesting to me in that I remember riding around the area in the early-mid sixties. It brought back a lot of memories.
