I am in the middle of subject project. the car has a 230 straight six and standard 3 speed on the tree. I have all of the power steering pump and hardware including the adapter plate for the frame. I did the same swop a few years ago on a 1960 start chief after I did a big block swop, and it worked out fine. I am on the hunt for a 605 steering box for my 64,...I used 1 out of a 1978 Lemans when I did the 60. I've been checking every salvage yard here in NS,...but no one has much of the old stuff anymore. I'm on a limited budget and really cant throw big dollars at this old girl so if anyone knows or has 1 they want to sell please dm me....9023045446
Hi... Maybe try a 90-94 Jeep Cherokee, (If my memory is correct, check the net). The Saginaw box was used for 25+ years in a bunch of cars, nobody will know, bolt right in.
Looking at Carl's post.... I think the frames all came with the four holes, so on the 3 hole box, one hole was not used?

Isn't the 605 the lighter box, the one that doesn't use the 4 bolts to hold the top plate on the box?
Let me look for pics.
If so, the 605 box only came out in the later years, maybe late 70's or early 80's?. In the earlier years I think they were all 800's.
And with that said, I've been wrong before...

Lloyd, do you have the pulley for the crank and the pump mounting brackets for the 230? Not sure if they are the same as for a v8 on a 230, I know the mounting brackets for a 235 were unique and hard to find/expensive.

From memory, 1994-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the one, not sure about the smaller Cherokee.
Thanks

If I recall the 605 box has the same size output spline that fits the 1964 pitman arm. It would make an easier swap for that reason. But do also remember changing lots of 605 boxes because they usually were leaking. My own 1979 Malibu I swapped the 605 for an 800 series from a wagon because it was leaking.

Yes, that certainly was a common 605 weakness.

Yes the pitman arm did fit the 605 (round cover held with a snap ring) steering box. The swap was popular thirty years ago when those steering boxes were plentiful and cheap.
