I would like to know if anyone knows for sure the original, correct routing for the (PCV, emission) lines for a 396/325 HP. I have the Rochester Carb. I am not sure if this should be a closed or standard ventilation system. I believe the driver's side valve cover hose goes to the front of the carb. I am not sure of the passenger side valve cover. I have a plugged inlet at the base of the carb in the rear. A breather cap on the Passenger side (and oil fill). I have the open air cleaner and also want to know if the base should be black or chrome. I also would like to know if the valve covers should have the drippers, and if the welds should show if you do have the drippers. Which decal is correct for the passenger side valve cover?
If your car is early production there should be no drippers in the valve covers. If it is late you will be able to see the spot welds from the outside. The air cleaner base should be black. The parts manual indicates two different air cleaners assemblies for the 67 396 but the only filter element is the AC212, 14" type. The Chevelle parts book has the same info so. The crankcase vent system changed mid year as well. Maybe someone else has some input.
Jerry, I believe that the open element air cleaner was only available on the 350hp motor not the 325. My 67 is a 325 hp and I have seen original pictures of 67's with that motor and they all have the enclosed black air cleaner. I will get some photos when I get a chance. There should be no decal on either valve cover.
My car was built on Febrruary 13, 1967, and shipped on March 1, 1967.
I have seen a lot of pictures of 396/350's , but not correct 325 HP engine compartments. I have most of the Beaumont parts manuals and repair manuals, but none of them go into detail with pictures (other than part numbers) of parts that are probably no longer available. There are a lot of different part numbers for a lot of 67 396 air cleaners.
I also have the "montly listing of Beaumonts shipped" if someone has a car near my build/shipping date. It includes all the information that is used to document the car by GM of Canada.
I have an air cleaner for the 325 horse hanging in my garage with the original decal on the lid. It is an enclosed black air cleaner base and snorkel with a black lid showing the decal on the lid. The 350 horse had an open element air cleaner with the decal on a chrome lid of which I have one on my car and it has never been touched. Both air cleaners have been reproduced, as far as I know, and the decals are available from the States.
