69 Trivia

It appears that 1969 was the first year that Pontiac offered the "Bonneville salt flats" 2.29 rear end ratio! I've owned a 2.56 geared 69 427 Grande Parisienne, but never had 2.29's. That must feel crazy! You would think it would almost go the speed limit in first gear at red line..........

Someone looking for fuel mileage? When I arrived in Ontario,40 years ago ,the speed limit was 60 and everyone drove 70mph  I used to drive faster.          My Ratochief w/2.73 and P225/75R-15 TIRES  gave me up to 19 mpg, last year @ 70 mph  and every car on 401 & hwy 20 & Trans Canada passed me! lol  avarage 16.9 for 1185 miles..  Heres one.

 "Wide Track" Pontiacs.

How much wider in track width were the real USA wide tracks, than the Canadian 65-70's?

Accordin to the spec sheet (http://memturbo.com/pontiac/images/CanadianBrochure/SpecificationsBrochure.jpg) the Canadian cars are 79.8"

I was under the impression, though I could be wrong, that anything 80" or wider required clearance lights, like the ones on dualie trucks.
