What about documenting all Canadian Pontiacs

Tossing this idea into the ring to see what feedback comes back.    There seems to be a lot of Pontiac owners coming to this site.   One of the most recent posts in the full size forum lists a bunch of car that may be near their end.

Now I've been documenting the Beaumont side of the street and was wondering if anyone is doing the same thing for the Full size passenger cars, Acadians and so forth.

Seems like a it should be done and this seems like the group to do it.   Wondering if anyone else has had the same thoughts and has something on the go?

I know GM of Canada has all the production information, but until they make the information readily available I believe documenting what we already know exists both running and junked/parts cars is in our best interest.

Any thoughts?  Concerns?  Feed back welcomed.

I will gladly do the camera-in-the-junkyard thing if that's what you mean.

This would include, VIN, cowl tag, options etc.

Would we list it on here, or what's your idea?

I am a member of a Nova site (Steve's) and this is what I did on there for 67's. I bought a US 67 SS last fall, and while trying to document it as far as original components, I collected a bunch of build date/VIN data. Take a peek here to see:

Hey, don't forget about us Acadians!!! We may be little, but we count too. And we're pretty rare, too.

But we're used to being the underdog...

I'd love to do it, but to be quite honest, with work, a son, and running the forum I really don't have the time to do a project as large as that properly. I'd be more than willing to help though!

I have a VERY good lead on it, as of yesterday afternoon. I am just planning my phone call to what is likely the current owner. I will likely do that this week. I have no idea if it will be for sale or not. Without saying too much, it's sounds like that IF the car is even for sale, it would not be for financial reasons.

Updates will follow if there is any progress. And thanks for the offer, but I would love to do a road trip in that car. In 1986, I went with 2 friends to POCI in Greensboro, NC. No air, and it was in the 90's with brutal humidity. The one friend picked up some sort of intestinal bug while we were there, and he lay down across the back seat the whole 3 day trip home. I think we hit almost every rest area in about 1500 miles on that trip!!!

Fortunately, this guy is not tall, so a B body back seat made a pretty nice bed!

Well,

My intention with this topic was to see how many people would be interested in such a project, what they'd like to see, how they'd like to do it, etc. There's a lot to think about when considering a project like this.

I'm wondering if posting it in the lounge was the wrong place, does anyone have a better idea. I'm not sure how many members actually read posts in here?

A comment was made if this only pertains to the full size cars. Answer no, it pertains to all Canadian Pontiacs. The information I'm thinking we'd like to be sure we get is the complete VIN number and cowl tag information. Digital pictures is the easiest way to do it, next best would be pen and paper with email.

Yes, this would be a rather large undertaking. I've spent nearly the last twenty years doing it for the Beaumonts and Canadian Chevelles. I believe I'm nearing possibly six thousand cars maybe more. I honestly haven't gone back and counted. This much I can tell you some of those car I documented back when I started no longer exist. Their gone forever and they took their information with them.

We all keep hearing the same questions over and over again "How many of my car were made with...." or "What gear ratio would my car have if I have a ..." Some of the posts here reverberate with the same content.

Only way I know how to do this is to start documenting. Based on the number of people here and some of you seem to know a lot of multiple car owners I thought this would be the time and place to broach the subject. A majority of the members here seem to be from Ontario the largest population in the country.

Is this an easy project that I suggest, no its not. There's a learning curve that has to be met such as, where the VIN and cowl tags were attached to the cars when built. Each model has slight variations on cowl tag placement. Educating the "raw data gathers" as to

- where to find the tags on each series of car? Full size, A body, etc.
- number of characters in each series VIN number? (Do they change by year) Yes they do.
- how the cowl tags look from year to year? How many lines of data?
- explaining all numbers/characters are significant?
- document every car you see whether at a car show, Timmy's, A&W cruise in, junkers and
especialy parts cars.

Will we ever have them all, no we won't. Not until someone perfects time travel, then look out I'm going to be hell on wheels. A trip is started, by just one step and sometimes that one step can be a real duesy. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Again still looking for feedback
