GM numbering sequence pot stirring

this numbering thing by GM got me wonder, my 55 gmc is a 9300 base model(but would be a 100 in the states) and a 55 chev truck would be a 1300 series here and a 3100 in the states. the canadian gmc's were built on the chev assembly line in oshawa. according to my original maintenance manual, going by the serial number the first number idents the year and the second number idents the make (1 for chev, 9 for gmc) coincidence or am i just stiring the pot.

1 = Chevrolet Motor Divsion
2 = Pontiac Motor Divsion (United States)
3 = Oldsmobile Motor Division
4 = Buick Motor Division
5 = GMC Truck Divsion
6 = Cadilac Motor Division
7 = Pontiac GM of Canada (Canada)
8 = Acadian

Were the Canadian Pontiacs also built in the same plant in Oshawa?

       I always though, they were built in same plant, as Chevys in Oshawa. Even the same lines, but I am not sure.  My car just says Oshawa.. My friend, who ordered the 396 4 speed in 1966, waited for months for it to come, from Oshawa, by rail car.. that is why I was led to believe, the crossed flags were OE.. I figured it made sense, if they only sold a few Strato Chiefs with 396/427, they would just throw on the emblems.  I was wrong...smile

User name Ketith worked at the Oshawa plant for years. I hope he doesn't mind me singling him out.
