RE: Holley Carb questions

Good idea Carl. I think I should be able to muster one from one of my "professional" tech friends!

This car is making me nuts. Today I changed the fuel saturated oil, fired it up and guess what? It won't idle! What the??????? How can the car run so good yesterday not run at all today?

It would appear you do have some foreign matter floating around loose in one of the idle circuits that alternatively is getting dislodged either by striking the carb or working itself loose and plugging it up again.  You may have to take the carb apart and completely blow through all passages with compressed air.

I agree however see my above post on my attempt to get the darn thing apart. I removed the 10 torx screws and it would not for the life of me come apart.

If you saw the mood I was in earlier this afternoon, a hammer near my car would not have been a good idea!

I got the top off the carb today (funny how the manual doesn't mention that the air cleaner stud also holds down the top!). I didn't notice any dirt etc but I did notice a small pinhole at the bottom of the primary fuel bowl just above the accelerator pump. Is this supposed to be there? If I crank the throttle, gas sprays up from it and some fuel shoots into the venturis. If I cover it with my finger, I get a really good stream of fuel into the venturis. Here's a photo with a dental pic pointing to it:

It seems so small that the slightest crud would plug it up. Perhaps it's to bleed any air from the accelerator pump? Anyone?

Hey Todd, maybe we should run it out to Scott Hayward in Embro. He is very good at carb problems. I have that Carter( pre-Edelbrock) off a big block Chev marine we could try. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer Earl. Carl is sending me a Edelbrock to run until a big block falls between the fenders.
