It appears to have the stock diff in it still. I believe that would be a 6.5" ring gear in those if I remember right. That would last all of 2 seconds if those tires would ever bite.
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with GM naming that car an "Acadian"!

I hope it's not a trend like the V8 Vega period. I had a 74 Astre GT back in 76 that the motor was burning oil, like all of them and my buddy was trying to convince me to do the V8 swap. I was so P-O'ed at the car I sold to a mechanic for $400. Never could stand those cars since. Although the Chevette/Acadian was a piece o' crap they kept running thanks to the Iron Duke.
We had a few Chevettes & Acadians and they were great little S'Boxes!. Aside from a cam that broke in half and welding floors and front upper shock mounts, they were cheap wheels also decent in the winter w/ a set snowies!.
No Iron Dukes in Chevettes though...they were in a range of other GM cars but Chevettes got a few displacements of the Vauxhall/Opel engines over the years also an uncommon seen diesel..
Being a Vauxhall fan, I always wanted to build a Chevette w/ the Vauxhall HR body kit...never happened and probably never will now..
I do still want a Vauxhall Firenza Coupe if anyone ever comes across one though...the fastback style, not the notchback or Epic..

I have had both a chevette and pheonix, the pheonix ran forever (iron duke). The chevette on the other hand did not last as long.

If you PM me with e-mail, I will send you ALL build photos. We used 32 inches of S10 frame, and set it back to keep wheelbase original. We tied the frame to the rear with 1x3 square tubing. We used a Comp Engineering adjustable 3 link and used a S10 rear with Astro van posi with matching axles. We built a tunnel and had Larry Kilpatric in London (Killer Racing)built a 355 with 350 trick trans and 3000 stall We used corvette ram manifolds,and built a aluminum gas tank and install where spare tire was.. and so on Car is for sale...
I see a few in the Ottawa area 350's and a few with 454's we had one that raced a luskville with a 454 for two year. I would hope that they up graded the brakes! they did not have the best brakes on them chevette or Acadian I had a few. fun car for the winter.
