Never heard the term.
I would use it maybe for:
#3 Goodwrench
Original Batmobile
Green Hornet's "Black Beauty"
JPS (John Player Special)

maybe a couple more if I wasn't half way through a bottle of Merlot.

I was at the film studios on Eastern Avenue in Toronto and "Hero car" is the main character's car or primary car used in a movie or TV shoot.

I thought the term was really neat especailly when everyone there is using it and referring to my car, you know, the August Feature car, now the Hero car!

Talk about a spring board for fame, Feature Car to Hero Car in a matter of three weeks. Hollywood here we come. Thanks Tood, we won't forget you! biggrin

I like it !

Shooting was a wrap yesterday (notice how I picked up the lingo so quick). When I get the ok I'll let you know where to watch for HERO 73SC, I may be able to post some stills too in a week or so.

Tell us more. This is the first we've heard about your car being a star! Did they pay you and feed you well while you were on set? Cool!

Well, 65 Camino works in the biz here in Toronto. The Producer of this particular project called him because he knew he had a few old cars. They were looking for an "old muscle car" but needed something sexy and not a Mustang, Camaro or General Lee!

We pointed him to the web site to see my Feature Car. He loved it but asked for even more photos which I got for him. About a week passed and I had put it out of my mind when he called saying "New York loves your car, we want to use it." I figured that would be neat so we agreed on a daily rental and a few conditions.

Two weeks passed then a e-mail, shooting the scenes on Wednesday and Thursday this past week, be there at 08:00! Studio #1 down on Eastern.

At this time I had no idea it was the "Hero car" but when we delivered it we got the story line and a tour of the studio and a lesson in how productions are put together. Not much in the way of sets, just a lot of "green screens". What I learned is even though my car will be driving and burning out, it never moves while shooting! Well, they put it on little plates under each wheel to position it.

I also got to see the story boards where every scene is drawn out with the premise written under it, oh also saw the hot "beer commercial" chick who is in this shoot but missed the Hero who drives my car. Saw the stills of him behind the wheel and man does he look cool. Forgot to mention that the Lemans blows up in a fireball ...oh well! There is also another car in the shoot with mine but it is a brand new 2009 model which I also got to see. It was nice, had Manufacturers plates on it since they drove it up from the States. Not sure if we even get this model here. The only hint for now is that it was a very very fast sedan from a company with a pretty good reputation in off road racing. (Astro Jet and 65 Camino know so no telling yet)

That's all for now, it will air on a Major US network pretty soon as a month long promo for a major TV production out of LA. biggrin

That's fantastic Ray! Let us know when the show airs. It wouldn't happen to be the show "Hero" would it?

Not Hero. It is for a promo commercial. The other car in the shoot is one of the sponsors but there is a series of spots with all the sponsors with a  story line building up to the actual televised show. I will provide the details once I get the ok. I have no idea how long you will see the LeMans in a 60 second spot but from looking at the story boards it will be a fair bit and you will know it is a 73 LeMans/GTO if you know cars.

Hey guys.. I work in the film industry (SPFX dept.) and the term "Hero" means a main prop.. or item that is the focal point of the show.. so the "hero" car would be.. whatever it is.. or the "Hero bike", or "Hero toaster".. etc..

there are a lot of terms and phrases in the industry that are "out there"..

Boy, does one's head swell when exposed to new things. As Ray discovered this is and has been my life for a long time.

So, you pimped your car out.  I don't blame you a bit, I would have laid down in front of it and let them run over me but I'm not sure about that ball of fire stuff.
Congrats and we look forward to seeing it air. weirdface

Yes, Mr Hazlett just lives a block south of Ray and me. My family know him quite well. He just celebrated his 89th birthday.

I have two of Gord's books. I enjoy reading about the early days of auto repair.

Indeed, but we get to hear about it first hand!

He is truly a wonderful man, an icon in our little corner of the world, East York. He would lead our Dominion Day/Canada Day parade every year in his '27 Pontiac with the Reeve or Mayor on board until just a few years ago.

I always like how he started a lot of his articles with "Well Sir.."
I only met him once. I could talk to these old guys for hours.
