Dropped axle car

Here is a 61 Pontiac that I've seen a few times in the Edmonton area.

Oh boyl I'd restore that one back to original in short order. Just my preference...

Me too. Love these cars, but I hate the way this one is jacked up. Must be scary to drive with front leaf springs & centre of gravity that high. I guess it is a matter of personal preference but it would not be mine

This is kind of the gasser look from the 60's  Put a straight or dropped axle in it and cut down on weight.

Just noticed - looks like it has a 348 v8. Probably rare, and for me all the more reason to put it back to stock form.

No question it's a W block for sure, can't say I ever saw one in person in a 61 Poncho.

how about down 1/2 way   I love it!      I love the old drag look from the day  the cars were jacked up to get traction...

I dunno, there is a 409 sticker on the underside of the hood, if that means anything.  Nevertheless, what a waste of a nice convertible.  The whole point of the dropped axle gassers was to make the car more functional for drag racing; that's why most of them had shortened wheelbases as well.  No one was ever serious about drag racing a convertible, it just looks ridiculous.ashamed

Agree with you  - to me this car should be basically stock.

Good eye, so this is most likely a swapped engine.

348 and 409 looked similar. 348 was available from 58-61; 409 from 63-65. If it is a 409 it would have to be a swap.
