Oil is down from $147.00 to $100.00 gas had dropped to $1.29-9 hmmm.. I was wondering? If we ALL drive to the pumps, each day or so and FILL up , because we are "afraid" the price will go up, the oil companies see strong sales numbers, and can decide to ease it up some more!! Now if we were to ALL buy a 1/2 tank of fuel, and the companies see lower sales, would they not respond, and lower the price.?? I understand that, those of you who commute on 400 highways, dont want to be low on fuel, but there a lot of us who dont need to always fill up.. or are we just screwed anyway?
I would also think if you dont fill up, they will lower the price. Someone said that there should be 2-3 days where there should be no one to fill up there cars so the gas companies don't get anything and then that should force them to lower the price for gas. What do you think?
These kinds of protests where no one fills up or targets certain oil companies have been tried many times before and never work. Why? Most people don't participate or in a typically Canadian manner, don't think an individual can make any difference. The only people that talk about doing this are car enthusiasts and we represent about .000000000001% of the driving public. I have even asked my neighbours about doing this and most of them look at me like I just landed from outer space. "But we need gas anyway" is what they always say. "Plus, if I don't fill up for a couple of days, when I do fill up I will just buy more and the oil companies end up selling the same amount at the end of the day any way." I have given up.

A protest is a tough thing to organize for the reasons mentioned. I noticed the other day no one was at the pumps after the price went up. Gas stations were like ghost towns around here. Myself with the little Toyota i only need to fill up once a week. It's really good just after an oil change. I've got 400km on it now with just under half a tank left. I drive just around the speed limit, even in the Trans Am. I had somebody pass me on the weekend driving a big SUV and i was thinking if they slowed down they could help out a bit. But i notice that people still haven't changed their everyday driving habits. I'm sure if everyone did that would have some effect but nobody seems to see the big picture. In the meantime i'll keep doing what i'm doing and try and save as much as i can. Haven't had the T/A out since the price jump. Weather has sucked in part, other part is i can wait until a drop in price to buy more gas. For now i can still drive it around town a little.

I noticed the same thing coming down the 400 from the cottage on Sunday night. I usually put on the cruise at 118 and reap a 28 mpg run. Sunday night traffic was light and I see these cars flying by in the left lane, so I pulled out to keep up and when I looked down the big Caddy's speedo was showing me 143,and they were leaving me behind. Too close to car crushing territory for me so back in the middle lane with the cruise on 118.
I notice the same thing as Ray. Most of the time I drive like a granny and only goose it when I really need to (passing, merging, or to spank a Mushtang) while most people are still blazing along, gas price and Facsist Fantino's storm troopers notwithstanding. I'm convinced that gas is going to have to get to close to 2 bucks a litre before people REALLY change their driving habits.

Our government will kill us for sure. Economy is down, lots of business shut down. It´s really hard to survive at the moment. I can´t see better times for the future yet.
Patty 58, are you stateside? Buying in gallons? Today in Ingersoll it went down to 1.26.7 per litre fro 1.34.9 yesterday. Which was up from last Thursday 1.19.5
Now you know why Diesel technology is so widespread in German cars! I wonder if anybody uses the cooking oil conversions on the old Benz's over there that are all over the states now?
We had friends from Germany recently (wife's family is German) and the economy is really bad there. Inflation and taxes are rampant. I fear it won't be long before conditions worsen here. Do you guys think we'll end up with the "Amero" (one currency in North America)"?
Oh i hope not...i'll protest. Apparently we might not get hit so badly. Watching the news some are saying it's more of an international problem with markets, etc. Not so much related to the CDN economy. Even all the problems on the Wall Street don't translate to the fact the US economy is improving a bit, and the mortgage meltdown is not as rampant as you hear. A lot of it is fear...but if one lemming goes over the cliff the others are stupid enough to follow, and i thought people with money were smart!
Gas prices were still around $1.39 per litre here, in Cowtown. You would think it'd be cheaper here cause they don't have to truckit all the way down there....hahaha

Well, from what I see of all you guys posting fuel prices, with the exception of Patty 58, you are all cheap!!! And, I mean in a good way!!! Here on the flatlands, I am paying between $146.9 and $148.9 a liter!! Friday was $136.9 when I travelled west of 'Stoon, filled up at $132.9 and by 3pm, it was $146.9!!! Oil drops $40 a barrel and goes up, in my case, 14 cents???? Must be that new math..................
Gas prices are nuts. But I drive the speed limit daily between Barrie and Toronto. (daily driver, 05 Maxima SE). Used to drive fast a lot on the 400 series hi-ways, but now, using Mobile1, 15% Alumin UDP, K&N filter and hi-flow y-pipe, cat-back system with Magna-flow mufflers and driving the speed limit (most of the time). Sooo, after all that, getting close to 950KM on a tank, mostly hi-way of course. Next car, going to have a 4cyl for the daily driver! Save the gas guzzling for the week-end warrior! Trying to do my part to minimize the fill-ups. I also fill-up at CT and collect CT bucks, usually get about $300 a year to buy other things, car stuff mostly. Kind of helps off-sets the price of gas, but not really.
Yes , we have a lot diesel burner, but this engines don´t last long like a gas engine, because they are all turbocharged with small cui,High RPM`s and so on. the old engines will last almost forever and you can run the fry-oil or salad-oil but on the other hand taxes are so mile high due to the pollution/emission laws. for example : if you have and old mercedes from around the 80´s with a 3000ccm engine ( approx. 170 cui ) you will pay 1500 $CDN tax per year. ( Plus the insurance, which wonder , every year raises up ) So , nobody will keep the old classics , to expensive , most of them will go to the boneyard ! The other problem overhere : everything is close together, but you have traffic jam all day , dosen´t matter if city or highway. And even a gasmiser don´t like stop and go the whole day.For sure you need more gas overhere , compared to the canada highway with 100KM/h speedlimit.
Some people are sure , that we will reach a price up to 8-9 $ per liter (in germany)within the next 8 years due to running out of oil worldwide.
So i guess i have to convert my ´58 with an hydrogen-cell or better a fluxx-compensator like the DeLorean in the movie back to the future. Patty 58

That's super gas mileage! How big is the tank in those Maximas? My wife and i try to buy our gas at the Refuel stations...we get 2 cents/litre toward groceries every time. Last week i put gas in the T/A at one and the person before left their receipt at the pump after doing debit payment, i got an extra $1.50 in grocery dollars to add to the rest!
Same here. Our "Independent" grocery store (it's like Loblaws) has gas pumps. They are often the cheapest in town and have the discounts on the reciepts. Gotta save wherever you can!
Speaking of alternative fuels...a month ago i read something about Prince Charles using wine somehow to fuel his classic Aston Martin. Honestly oscifer, i'm not drinking and driving...it's the car!!!
