Happy 100th Birthday GM!

Sept. 16th was officially GM's 100th Birthday.  This a pic of the Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn last night.  Pretty classy move by Ford.

Wow, I wish I could say I thought GM would ever return the well wishes if the shoe was on the other foot.

I bleed GM and badmouth Ford constantly, but that's pretty cool.

cool, I remember the old Ford building in Oakville before they replaced it with the new building ( a few years old). My friend has a 67 Mustang convertible. We wanted to take pics of it outside the old plant, but they tore the old building down before we got the chance.

Me too and around my place Ford is considered one of the F-Words..

Cool gesture though and it'd be nice to think either company could make the next hundred years!.

Classy move indeed. No grandstanding from GM? Anybody hear of any celebrations? You'd figure under the current economic conditions, they'd capitolize by having a sale.

GM has had a alot of special events to celebrate. One of our members on board, Forspeed, had his Acadian in the special cruise organized by GM at Woodward. You can see a film on it HERE and even see the orange Acadian which was also a past Feature Car. They are having a huge Sale right now with "Employee Discount" program that is all over the TV. Yesterday was the offical celebration in Detroit and they launched the Chevrolet Volt.

The Ford lighted tribute was timed to correspond to the Official Media Events.

Anyway, maybe not as much fanfare or publicity here in Canada but they are celebrating Stateside.

Sign me up and plug me in...

I guess if I was "normal" I would someday grow up and drive a "normal" car for everyday driving. I'm not convinced that will happen in my lifetime. It does seem somewhat logical to expand a guy's horizons to include something like that in the interest of being green and money conscious.

I don't know what happened to the original concept design, that looked cool and different and distinctly North American.  This thing they announced yesterday just looks like another version of the Prius (no offence Todd) or maybe an updated Dodge Stratus.  It has totally lost the "edginess" or market leading design it used to have:

Now that they brought back the electric car. Maybe they'll bring back a steam powered one as well.
I watched Jay Leno talk about steam powered cars and it was amazing the amount of power you can get from such a small piston.

Plug your car in like the kettle in the morning.Have breakfest and the car will have enough steam to get you to work. Then you don't have to pack all those batteries.

We already complained about gasoline prices but here in Ontario the Ontario Power Generation Corp. actually could teach the oil companies a few things.  Yikes, we think twice about plugging anything in.

I'm all for steam power as well, it's amazing how much power those Stanley Steamers could put out.  Of course all the enviro-nazis will shoot it down because inevitably we will be burning too much carbon to create the heat to make the steam.  I don't think they will ever be happy with whatever form of propulsion we come up with because deep down inside they just hate cars of any form.  Why?  Because they represent personal freedom.  They want us all to be subject to collectivist forms of transport so they can continue to brainwash us with their socialist non-sense and continue to shift wealth away from those who have earned it to those who are too stupid, too lazy or just plain jealous of other peoples' efforts and success.  Talk about a segue into a rant!

That's part of the reason I have no problem with buying solar for the cabin. We know what our costs will be, don't have to worry about increases unless they figure out a way to tax sunlight.

Hey Hillar, my new neighbour was President of the PC riding association for years. He just resigned because he said running against Layton time after time he felt like a sacrifical Lamb! Any way come on over and the three of us can rant all night. We had a good rant over Comrade Miller last night! biggrin

Oh, you just said the magic words Ray, I am ready for a rant any time, especially when it comes to Comrade Miller, that moron just makes my blood boil.  Yesterday he was at it again, just flat out lying to the press when he inferred that yesterday's shootings were caused by guns owned by legitimate gun owners that had been stolen.  Of course he never sites any statistical evidence because there isn't any!  Ban guns!  Well let's just ban murder as well!  Why not ban crime in general!  Just ban everything and we will be living in a socialist utopia!  Strange how after he "banned" those two gun clubs in Toronto, gun crime just hasn't disappeared!  And he just ignores the FACT that after gun ownership in London, England was banned, gun crimes there have INCREASED to the highest level ever!  Just don't confuse me with the facts sir!
