Gas fumes

Does anyone else have the lingering smell of gas and half burnt fuel smell in their garage as I do with my 65.  I figure this is do to the vented tank and cap that newer cars no longer have, but any suggestions as to what can be done to minimize it?confused

Ya, I had gas fumes, I had the single car garage, so I had to put the car in neutral and push it out and start it outside. Or the gas fumes would seap through to my basement.

Exactly the same, I leave the garage door open as well. Or the basement will stink of the fumes. But now at where I live, I have to keep it parked outside, let it run for 3-5 minutes and gas fumes are all over.

My garage smells the same way. After a trip around town and back to the garage it is bad.
I have a good seal on the garage door to the house. You can open a window a crack to let the fumes out. Also you can leave the garage door open about 4" off the ground. You can get a bathroom fan and route it out to the side of the garage under the roof overhang.

Are you sure it's not the carb dripping in after you shut it off? My Acadian was horrible for that when I had the 427 in it with the Quadrajet. If you looked in about a minute or so after shutting it off, you could see the fuel dripping down into the intake. It makes a horrible smell. Seems to me I remember a lot of the old Rochesters doing that. I think there is a web page somewhere detailing how to fix that problem.

never had that problem with the 55, only when i fill the tank before i get home. and i blame that one on the filler tube.
