I'm trying to find some information on a 1958 Pontiac Parisienne Convertible. I have come across this car that was imported to Australia in 1960 from Canada. The only information on these vehicles I can find suggests that they only came out with a V8 motor and a straight 6. The car that i came across is a straight 6.
Can someone give me any information on this vechile or where I might be able to find some information, eg production numbers, specifications, etc. Thank you
Just for your information this car was purchased in Canada by an Australia GM mechanic and was brought back to Australia with him. He still owns this car with 40,000 miles on the clock.
The car is black and white in colour with red and white interior. It has been garaged for the last 26 years.
What would you believe a vehicle like this would be worth?
We are currently still researching this car.
Thanks again for the link and we have sent a email to GM to find out how many of these were built.
Once I have an answer I will post the information and let you know.
If I do decide to purchase this car I will also post up some pictures for you to see.
I was speaking to a gentleman, pretty well known restorer here in Ontario, on Sunday at a Cadillac Show. He has restored many Pontiacs including 2 1958 Parisienne convertibles. One he sold the other he has. The sold car is Black with red interior manual shift on the floor 4 speed 348 tri power. It won the Cruise nationals a few years back. It is probably a six figure car.
There is a 58 Laurentian hardtop for sale in Naples Florida right now and it is a beauty as well, 283 car, 90,000 miles. It was bid up to $9,100 last I looked.
If you would post some pictures we may be able to help better. Sounds like it's worth pursuing however.
The car and color combo sounds great!. So it was originally built as LHD and shipped down under as complete unit by the owner?. Was it ever converted to RHD?.
Of interest on LHD N. American cars in collections abroad is that S. Africa has just introduced legislation to ban LHD cars from their roads.. I have a few S. African car pals who have told me that if passed, this legislation will hurt many collectors also it's already causing many LHD cars to go up for sale at reduced rates.. RHD steering boxes and related parts have already increased in value too so if anyone has ended up w/ any RHD parts, don't toss them as there's guys that really need these parts!.

Here's a good article on the 58's plus other years including quite a bit of info on the unique Canadian Pontiacs and what was shipped to other markets..

I was under the impression that all 58 standard transmission cars were three on the tree. Was this car modified with a 4 speed from a later year?
Hillar I sent an e-mail today to the Cruise National Director asking more about that car, I'll let you know. I was surprised the first time I saw it too. I was told it is a one of three. Might be a 3 speed floor shift.
