That is not a code we deal with day to day in parts.

Wow! How rare is it to see one still around? Love to see some pic's please. I had a 64 Parisienne hdtp. with a 409 in it. I never thought it was original at the time (1973-74) because the local GM guru at the time told me they never put them in Pontiacs. Doesn't matter now as the car was rusty back then and scrapped by 76.

X09 is a "SPEEDO ADAPTER"  it was a little plastic part(like a gear reducer) that screwed on between the speedo and the cable under the dash.  I actually have one of these if you can believe that.

As to why some cars had them and some didn't is a mystery??? any ideas?

I notice the info above is dated 1992.  I got docs for my 64 beaumont in 2006 and the X09 is clearly stated as a speedo adapter.

COOL!!!!!!!

Would it have something to do with the rear end ratio? Perhaps this car has a performance axle?

Being the 340 hp version, it would be a single carb.

Trades only at this point... gotta use it as bait to try and get a '63-'64 409
4-speed!

Does anyone out there know of ANY 1963 or 1964 Parisienne 4-speeds????

Let me know (finder's fee offered!).

I have only ever seen one "live" 409 and that is a '65 Parisienne with a 4-gear. I do know of a '65 Parisienne Rag with a 409 auto--kinda like a barn fine, but it isn't for sale and the last I heard about it, it was to it's axles in the soil!!

Were you part of the discussion here a while ago regarding 396/409 availability in 65 full size Pontiacs?

Are these original 409 cars you speak of? The build dates would be of interest if so.

No, don't think I was..The first time I arrived at this site was when we were talking about my Grande wagon. If I was here, I somehow missed it or it didn't register to me at the time. The coupe is definately a 409 4-gear and the Rag , well I am going by someone else, but a carnut none to less!
He talked to the original owner while they were looking at the car. I have since talked to the budd of mine and he confirmed a couple of things that I mixed up in the first time go-around. It is in a quanset, top down, up to it's axles, he believes it is a Custom Sport and it is not an auto---but a factory 4-gear!!!
He has since talked to the owner and the car isn't for sale--depending on cash I am sure!!! I will try and get ahold of the owner to see what the scoop is and if nothing else, a couple of pics.......

Well Carl, I normally reserve the gratuity for someone who leads me to a car I buy... but those pictures deserve at least a cold frosty one beer.gif if I ever run into you at an event (Beautiful B.C. invites you!). Is that beauty yours???!!!

Let me cast a wider net:

Does anyone on this site have any memories of seeing a 1963-1965 409 Parisienne??? If so, was it a 4-speed? What horsepower? What's the story???

Best story is entitled to come for a beer with me and Carl biggrin.gif and if it's a car I eventually find and buy there'll be plenty more beer money to come!

Real stories only... no fibbing blahblah.gif  Thanks!

George

As I said before on this site I bought a 64 Parisienne 409 in 1974. A local guy who seemed to know his stuff at the time told they never put 409's in Pontiac's. End of discussion. At the time I was18 and didn't care if it was original or not, it was a cool car to me. It was also told that because it was a bench seat the 3 speed stick floor shift was not original either. Again I didn't care. Numbers matching was something no one at the time ever discussed, at least not with me. The car was rusty as most of the Nova Scotia cars were at the time. After I sold it the clutch went and it sat on blocks for a few years until I think someone bought the engine and the car was scrapped. Even if I had known in 74 I couldn't afford  or want to restore it then. I bought a 67 Firebird and kinda forgot about the Parisienne. It always came up when my buddies and I got together to bench race over a few beers, You know "Man you shoulda kept that car". Different time and place.

I think another reason I was told my car wasn't built with a 409 is because the engine was painted orange. I have since seen many Pontiacs with orange engines, but back then it wasn't a priority to have a numbers matching. It was major cool just to have a 409 car!!

If it's the one you told me about, yes it was a 64.

Boy, talk about reviving an old thread!

The thing about remembering or identifying 409 cars from the past is that they just said "V8" on the fenders. We could have been looking at one and never realized it. Under the hood all the 63-65 409s had chrome regardless of horsepower.
