RE: stephenzone's 'new' '70 convert

ref 409. haven't started a thread yet just dropping info every now and then to peak interest. scoop is with switching motors around, i ended up one engine short for the beaumont and i knew of a 409 witch was missing its heads (stolen). can't remember how much info i dropped so here is the full story. the 454 is too big for the beaumont and will fit nicely into the cj7 jeep. even will let me use the full size finned aluminum oil pan because there is no cross member in the way, plus the drive gear is all 1 ton chevy farmer 4sp and gear driven transfer case, basically bullet proof. was going to put the 70 LT1 in the beaumont but the 70 pontiac 2+2 came along. year correct motor and no friggin around straight install. so i knew about the 409 but had nothing to put it in till now. got the numbers off it this week its a 62-3 409 car motor completely dismantled sitting on a pallet in a warehouse. everything is there except the heads. not a big issue because eldebrock sells new aluminum heads bolt on and don't have to worry about new seats or anything for now a days gas. now i can take a breath. even the original intake, oil pan, valve covers it all there.

Great to see you've got the car home!.
The car looks a lot happier already and like some of the sore spots are starting to heal on their own?.
Have you ordered the documents from Geo/ Z. yet?.

For sure the car looks a lot happier than when we saw it on Sunday. We couldn't get over how solid that frame was on it too. Glad you got a nice day to get it home safely.

my beaumont is the smaller acadian/chevy II model. when i set up the front end for the big block using the s10 chassis everything was in the way, power breaks, steering, hydralic clutch. you name it. i still might straight axle it.

Good to see it made it home safely Steve.  Yeah, driving, let alone towing something across the 401 it TO can be a b!tch even the best of times.  Did you tow it with the Jimmy?  How was it?

the jimmy is set up for towing with a class 3 hitch, and has the towing option on the trany, so everything went sort of smoothly except for losing the signal lights. i never went above 100 clicks. strange that i could see both sides of the 2+2 in the mirrors, she is wide.

When I got the NASA hood for the LeMans it had to go on the roof racks of the Suburban. The hood alone is wider than the Sub, imagine that!

Maybe I can join the convertible club? There's a 69 in Kitchener for sale I might go check out. I'm waiting for photos. Sounds rough but we'll see..

Back in 1986 I used to see a very clean Gobie Beige '70 2+2 convertible running around North York in Toronto. It had been repainted so the stripes were gone. It also had fender skirts, wheel opening moldings and rocker moldings added from a Parisienne. I also remember little amber fog lights replacing the horn grilles inboard of the headlights. One day I caught up with the owner and chatted with him. It was an L48 car (350 cube 300 horse). He told me his father also owned a '70 2+2 convertible with L48 power. That one was Forest Green. He also told me that GM said it was one of less than 300 (I couldn't remember the exact number, but obviously it jibes with what has been posted earlier in this thread). Does anyone here remember the car?

In Ancaster back around 1979/80 a guy in my high school owned an original paint & stripes (but scruffy) '70 2+2 convertible in Autumn Gold. It too was a 350, but I don't know which one.
Several blocks from that car I remember a clean '70 2+2 coupe that was Black Cherry with a black vinyl roof, plus black buckets with black & white houndstooth cloth. It had grey & white stripes and I think was powered by the L48 350. Around 1977/78 it was repainted Cranberry Red, lost the stripes and was sold a little while later. I never saw it again.

the scuttlebutt on my 70 2+2 is that it was in the ancaster area till it got taken off the road in 82 for a blown motor. it was originally silver but painted red.

what i did friday before i took off for the weekend.
