Question, what size battery charging wire? Fuse link?

CP electrical guru's, a couple of questions...

I still have been unable to figure out a return charging wire size from the new powerpoint to the Battery. I've heard many different theories on this one.

In it's stock form, it's a 10G with 14G fuse link completing the circuit back to the battery from the harness main power splice. It's said that GM designed the wire on the small side to limit or regulate the amount of current travelling back to the battery, thus preventing an overcharge, and making life a little easier on the battery. Sort of an elegant solution to the problem really.
 But now, with a 100A Alt, and one that produces much more output at idle, will the 10G wire with a 14G fuselink as planned suffice? I've heard the a healthy battery will only accept as much charge as it needs anyway... provided it's not completly flat.

So here's two questions for experts;

What size charging wire do I need between the new powerpoint and Battery? Can it be too big or small?

Does the heavy output wire from the Alt to powerpoint need a Fuselink? The factory did not have one.

Cheers, Mark

I was looking at the MAD Enterpises wiring diagrams for a upgrade to 12SI
they use 8g to powerpoint or horn relay but 10 g  from there on. Check out link
scroll down to version with a larger amp aternator.

On page two of this link ;

But for a wide range of car batteries, our recommendations for the battery charging wire have proven to work well.  (The recommendations were:  With battery up front use a seven feet to ten feet length of 10gauge wire with a 14gauge fusible link.  (With the preference at close to ten feet.)  And with our battery at the rear system, twelve to twenty feet of 8gauge charging wire with a 12gauge fusible link.  (With the preference at about eighteen feet.)

The only thing I would add, (not being an electrical expert) is that I have read the length of fusible link portion is quite important.
