hardened valve seats

i know there is different opinions on this and first off my car is just for cruising, soooo, should i be worried about not having them? Should i always use a lead additive? if so,  Which one? Could i put the heads from an 79 305 on, or a 350? confuse

And another thing, i dont have any valve noise and would it be worth it to take the heads and manifold off to re-gasket them even if i have no leaks right now, and since i dont know when it was done last or ever.

I used stp in my gto, ran great. The lead is basically a lubericant. As the engine heats up, the valve seats will warp if it gets hot. Something to think about. I personally would redo the heads with hardened seats if you plan on driving it hard, or long distances.

what about just putting newer heads on? Im not too worried about keeping it original, and i can paint anything and make it look like it was always there! I figure the longest i will be driveing is a couple hrs. now and again. I also have no problem just putting the lead add. in.

i have heads from a 305 and a 350 that i can get for free, both from late 70s engines. Would this be the way to go or should i redo the orig. 283 heads? Is this expensive or hard to do?

Depends on who is doing them. Easier to send them out than playing with them.
