Yeah nice combo. Red and black kind of looks purposeful. Mine will be pale yellow and black. Not quite as macho somehow.
Did he mention that on his build sheet (I assume from George Z) how many 390 horse 427's were installed in that year in that model? I found out that there were 782 396's, (15% installation) which was a lot more than I thought so it would really add to the picture if he had his number. Then maybe some day we could find out how many 425 horse 427's there were..... (I'm thinking barely double digits for those)
If you put a late model engine or accessories, smallblock or big block, the alternators switched to the Rt side in about 1973. THey went to a long style water pump as well. This one is not correct & Steven is looking for the correct pulleys and bracket setup.
I'm not sure I understand. Here is a picture of Astro-Jets unmolested 1970 454 and the alternator is on the passenger side.
Here is a 1969 427 with alternator on passenger side:
Here is a 302 Z/28 with alternator on passenger side:
For B body cars with big blocks, the alternator moved from the drivers side to the passenger side in 1969. So, for 1967, the alternator is on the drivers side. I think for 1968 the alternator is on the drivers side, and for 1969 the alternator is on the passenger side. Doing so, meant the outlet from the intake manifold for the upper heater hose needed to move, as the alternator was in the way. Starting in 1969, the upper heater hose comes out between the front 2 intake manifold bolts on the passenger side of the engine.
When someone transplanted the engine in this 1966, they took the motor complete with brackets etc and dropped it into place. They would then have had to do some splicing for the alternator.
Thanks Clint for the good clarification there. Guys,I finally got the Build Sheet !! I will post it when I can get close to a scanner. Definitely a 390 HP 427 Turbo 400 Posi, car. One of 56 Grande Parisiennes 2 or 4door with the L- 36 Option for 66 built in Oshawa Plant . 1 of 5147 GP 2dr Hardtops Built.

What I mean to say is that I understood your info states that 56 Grande Parisiennes of all kinds were made with the L36.
There were only two body styles that year in the GP line, the 2 door hardtop and the 4 door hardtop.
I don't know how many 4 door hardtops were made but we do know that 5147 two doors were made. So assuming that about as many 4 doors were made that year might lead to about a 50/50 split in installations with maybe 20 or 30 in the two doors. (Might be more in the 2 door as they probably seen to be a bit sportier.
It would be nice if the build sheet would have brken it down by body style but it doesn't seem to have done that. In any case, that is a very rare car!
It would be great to know how many went in the Parisienne line and particularly the Custom Sports. Probably a few more as they were the Pontiac equivalent of the Chevy SS.
I didnt realize the GPs were only in those models for 66. You are right though, they only check the bodystyle of the car in question. It makes it kinda fun though as you never know all the answers at one time ! If all the 427 cars for 66 that had buildsheets were different models we would probably know how many 427s were built. I would love to know that too for 67 as well as how many total 4spd B body cars for 67 and 66. For instance we know in 67 only 39 396 2+2 convertible cars had 4spds and 13 same with 427's.
Howdy, from my GM documentation, there were 782 396's installed in 66 Grande Parisienne Two door hardtops. I don't know what the figures are for the 4 door hardtops. (the only other model in the line) According to the info we have so far for this car there were only 56 390 horse 427's installed in both models of Grande Parisiennes for 66. We have not yet heard how many L72's (425 horse 427's) were installed in 1966(that I know of) but it has to have been even fewer than the 390 horse as they were a very expensive option, I think even more than the air conditioning of which there were 23 installed in the two door model.
I don't have any info on the 1967 models(as my particular interest is the 66 two door) but I think there is some partial info in the production number thread.
Given the kind of partial info we have I would make a guess and say there was no more than 825 big blocks of all kinds installed in the 1966 two door Grande Parisienne which the vast majority being 396's (which are pretty cool anyway) There was a total of 5147 of these built so that makes it about a 15% rate. The rest of the 5147 made would have been split between the 327 (275 horse) and the 283 (195 horse) which was the standard engine for this model.
I really don' t have much info on the 1966 4 door hardtops at all so far. Maybe somebody will get his checked out through GM and we'll get more shared.
I hope that helps. I expect we'll find out more in time.
