Rally Wheel Installations on Canadian Pontiacs

Hi guys a lot of people seem to think that these things look too Chevy but I know that they did come on  Pontiacs with disc brakes so they are correct.  Given that they are the sexiest most purposeful looking wheel GM ever made, and so very desirable it would be interesting to list which year and which sizes and widths they came on so I can at least point to the forum ( which collectively knows all) to shut down the next critic

I'll start with what I know which isn't much.  I believe they were first offered in 1967 with disc brake cars (for the extra cooling I believe) The ones I acquired from a  67 2+2 had the small cap with "Disc Brake" inset and no Pontiac badge with pretty skinny trim rings. They were 5" by 15" and painted black. (Body Colour)

After that????

my understanding.....
(talking b-body chevrolets here)

15x5 '67
15x6 '67 wagons and all '68-'70

they were required? with disc brakes, optional otherwise.

wheels were silver, possibly black for police units?

I got a set of 15 x 6 with the flat blank centers off of a 69 2 + 2

I've pulled the blank centers off of spoked hub caps, and put them on the flat centers, did the same with a set of 67 SS spoked hubcaps as well as a set 64 Pontiac GTO spoked caps that had the 2 bar spinner on them. The beauty of the 2 piece center.

Something different

the center ornament on the 64 GTO wire cap was the same size as the Canadian Pontiac rally cap ? or you did this for GTO rallys ?-I have used the Canadian Poncho wire cap ornaments on rally caps and vise versa, I really like 15 x 6's thats what I put on my 69 full size rag

same size,,same 4 screw holes,,it's a bolt on. then I snapped it into a 'vette' rally

It's funny ,, I was hording rally wheels, and now I've ended up with

2 15 x 5
8 15 x 6
8 15 x 7
2 15 x 7 ( 68 vette offset )
6 15 x 8

WHY ?????

don't even get me going about my 'torque thrust' collection.

yeeeshh!!

Yeah those things are kind of addictive.  I've only got 4 15 x 5's, 6 15 x 7's, 2 15 x 8's and a couple of repros. (All in use too.)

Still a few questions in my mind.

There were no 15X7's offered on the Pontiacs?

When did they switch to the bigger centres and did they have any markings?

I purchased a disc brake 67 or 68 (I forget which year) car in the 70's that was ordered with disc brakes but NOT ordered with rally wheels. The disc brakes had to have a rally wheel to clear the calipers so the buyer received black rally wheels under wheel covers if he did not pay for rallys. I would not have believed it had I not seen it. At that point I guess GM had not made a plain wheel for full size cars to clear the 4 piston caliper.

That is weird all right.  One of those little quirks from the production line I guess.
Its kind of strange how everybody wants these babys even though they probably didn't cost any more to make than a regular rim.  Thats good design for you (and that fact that they kind of are associated with hi po.)

Thanks for all those photos.

I'm puzzled about why they didn't use a Pontiac emblem rather than a black circle. Were these centres used on Beaumonts and Acadians, as well as B-bodies? If so, maybe the black circle was cheaper than coming up with three different versions for Canadian cars.

confuse

just wonder if anybody has an old Hollander interchange manual ,,,,there is one for wheels only caps . Anyways ,,it usually shows the application in the interchange.

Seems to me ..I've seen the wire hup cap with plain center on oldsmobile wagon, and I've also seen the flat centers on a 69 Buick skylark with GM ralley wheels ??? stock...who knows..

That plain centre came on Beaumonts also. Have to check the parts book but I believe Acadian too.

Hollander won't help us much on these I don't think because it's a US book and these are cool, unique Canadian stuff!

because a Beaumont was not a Pontiac-yes it was sold at pontiac dealers, beaumont is its own marque-beaumont, beaumont custom, beaumont sport deluxe

that otta ruffle some feathers.

We've had this discussion before. wink  I've always thought the emblem in the centre of a Beaumont steering wheel looked very close to the Pontiac arrowhead...
