The stamped #'s are on the extended block deck surface that protrudes beyond the head on the RH side of the car while sitting in it.. Fred's Left Front view means your Left side while looking under the bonnet.. Tough w/ you RHD guys as the Driver's & Passenger's side gets confusing too!.
Hope all's well in your world Johann!. Best get that bonnet turned so it's lying on it's flat side and not the pointed tips!.

Ghost Post wrote:Hope all's well in your world Johann!. Best get that bonnet turned so it's lying on it's flat side and not the pointed tips!. Hullo Pete, Those tips are slightly banged up! Pulling the 250 cid engine tomorrow and bringing the 305 cid home in the afternoon. The body then goes to the bodyshop on Tuesday or Wednesday. Price for the repairs and a total respray is R9000 about $1100 Canadian. This is a strictly hard cash deal. Just got my first month's pay as a active/retired QA Engineer. You can drive through my smile!!!
I think that I should start a new topic where I can keep everybody pictorialy updated on the restoration process. This car is not going to take too long, especially with the second pay cheque coming in for the next few months. That is what determines the pace!

Ghost Post wrote:Keep us posted Johann and lay the stamped #'s off the engine pad on us when you get the engine in front of you.. Took the engine out this morning with my "new" Block and Tackle. That is how far I got as the whole of South Africa will be nailed before the TV as it is the Currie Cup Rugby Finals today!

Engine arrived today!! went straight to the ID Pad. Large letters and numbers are: K0427DDM Smaller letters and numbers are: iD1709250 Will some body please release me from the anticipation? Know for sure that with all the thingamagigs removed the horsepower is bound to increase!
DDM is a 1983 LG4 305 4-Bbl Carb 145 Hp w/ Rochester E4ME carb. from an F or B Body..
Further confirming the application, counting backwards 8 digits from the end of the Vin is the 'D' which is 1983...other digits can confirm the series, plant and actual car too..

Remember Johann, that is the same engine as the post on the build up. It pulled 197 HP as it's baseline. You've got a solid base to start with PLUS it's a top quality Canadian powerplant. The only way this could be better for us is if it came out of a Pontiac Firebird or Pontiac Parisienne, but I have to admit that saying you have a Camaro powered Kommando is very neat too!

Thanks to all of the forum members who were so quick to reply
Iwas told the engine came out of a Camaro. Did Canada manufacture Camaro's?
On the one tappet cover, the letters something and TS was painted on by hand. Pity you chaps must have all those emmision controls fitted to the engine. It is going to look real good without them.

Don't forget that Canada is on the casting. Can always fib and say it comes out of a Firebird!!!! Friend at work also has a 305 with a DualJet Carburettor and no mention of Canada on the block!
