Original six is the well respected GMC/Pontiac 261.

thanks for the link. it matches some of the chart however the numbers don't match up. it is a green block, its got a tag stuck on it with measurments, throw, bore, engine number, etc.  the tag wast stamped in edmonton, so is that where it was built(the engine}. its got me stumpped. i usually do custom work, not matching. i'd like to know what it is to do the dual exhaust and card conversion.

Sounds like a rebuilders plate you're looking at on the block.

I would imagine that the engine was rebuilt sometime in its life by and independant engine remanufacture and it possibly is the original but just an exchange unit they had.
My '56 GMC has a tag just ahead of the fuel pump with Winnipeg as the engine rebuilder......

Forgot to say that the 235 is the same basic block as the 261 except you have figured that out by now from that link. biggrin

I was actually across the street from your place at that farmers little store on the weekend and was going to stop in but was pressed for time.
