cleaned and painted spindles and brackets
also beat the snot out of the driveshaft with heat to get the u-joints out (remember stored since 82). they are out and driveshaft is cleaned and painted and hanging from my ceiling awaiting its shiny new u-joint

Rotors on. and wheels for foto op. refurbishing front calipers right now. the ones that they said will fit, will but stock brake lines wont because fitting in wrong spot. was thinking get or make new flexible brake lines but my calipers are not that far gone. just cruddy and full of fluid. therefore wire wheel is still my best friend.
rotors greased and installed
wheels on for Foto op.
i'm thinking pretty soon moving rotisserie over to that side.

Good work Steve.Steve I think the calipers that fit your car are the same as 70 Firebird. I seem to remember having the originals from your car and checking them against Firebird and they were the same.Did you get a set with the car?
to borrow a phrase from our own mr stevenson Buffed and cleaned parts with brakecleaner, buffed and cleaned parts with brakecleaner, Buffed and cleaned parts with brakecleaner, buffed and cleaned parts with brakecleaner, now paint shiny glossy caliper red.

hope you feel bad for making me go back out to the shop to see what type of paint i used, thought i was in for the night. no i used VHT caliper red. just like the tuner crowd. sorry no carbon fiber. my Scottish heritage cringes at that thought even though i do like to stop. just old fashion resurfaced steel.

just plugging away at it. fuel pump, starter, new distributor, powersteering pump and hoses, tranny mount and rear exhaust. waiting for flanges for the ramhorns. got some nice exhaust hanger from a local shop. i'll redo the fuel line from the pump to the carb, not happy with my bends. i'll try to do the gas line down the frame tonite, got the clips today. i do most of this stuff after junior goes to bed.
detent cable is fubared, was thinking aftermarket because the stock one doesn't work with this aluminum intake ie lokar but i think i'll get a replacement cable and weld the other end of the bracket under the trottle cable bracket. just like a lokar but not shiny.

picked up all new shocks yesterday. and while i was there ordered ball joints and tie-rod ends. that will be tomorrows projects.
since i'm almost finished the chassis, i switch the 2 around and started to strip the body. the rear is done and i'm thinking tomorrow the front maybe. depends on how many coffee breaks i take.
gotta thank mark for recommending to balance it in the rotisserie. sure makes for light work when all you have to do is give it a spin.

Holy mackerel Steve have you ever been flying on your restoration project! And it looks fantastic to boot. Clue us in on what you take to keep your energy level up will you please? LOL! You're a year and 17 days younger than I and I'd be really happy if I could accomplish half of what you have, in a year let alone a few short weeks or a couple of months. By the time I post this, no doubt you'll already have it on the frame, painted, interior back in and just waiting for the snow to melt! LOL!
Thanxs for the vote of confidence. i haven't worked on it this weekend because of work and i can't substantiate turning the heat on for only a couple of hours. i did half the ball joints yesterday and pulled apart the tie rods and cleaned and painted the joiners (don't know the automotive name, better then do ma jiggy) was thinking of mike667 when i picked up and paid for 4 ball joints, up and lower and 4 tie rods outer and inners and that was over 500 and i don't pay off the street price. i wasn't going to replace them. they were tight, but one lower did have a tear in the rubber and since i had everything apart.
like my vintage shop chair.
you know they are original when you have to cut out the rivets
friggin with the tie rods
